Summary[]

Following a team of Ninja del clan del piede, Raffaello arrives at the Tecnodromo just in time to see Shredder’s latest creature. A giant armored dinosaur announces that he is Rex. Shredder gloats over the creation – the first and only mutant Tyrannosaur, mighty and ruthless like a predatory dinosaur. Krang adds that it is as clever as Shredder, who loaned him his brain patterns. Raffaello is stunned by what he sees. He thought such beasts were extinct, but maybe no one noticed this. Krang says that destroying New York is going to be a joke with such a titan at their command.

Rex immediately informs him that he is at no one’s command, as he is the strongest. Krang shouts that he works for them. Rex tells him to forget it, as he will be the one to conquer the city and then the world. Krang tells Shredder that they created a monster. Shredder replies that they can always destroy it. He presses the emergency call button and when Ninja del clan del piede arrive, he tells them to make meatballs of the presumptuous dinosaur. Rex stomps on some of the robotic fighters and says that he prefers fritters to meatballs. He then lifts one of the robots and says he wants to see what their puppets taste like. Rex chews it up and then spits it out, saying it tastes like burnt plastic. He announces that he must leave them now because he has things to do on the surface. As he leaves, he tells them to try not to annoy him and there will be a small place for them at the foot of his throne. Shredder turns to Bebop and Rocksteady and says they must stop him. The two frightened mutants decline the task.

Shortly, a police dispatcher calls a motorcycle officer to report that a lady saw Godzilla in Times Square and for him to check it out. He acknowledges and then he and his partner head that direction. The first officer laughs that maybe Godzilla will be arm in arm with King Kong. His partner replies that he’s always said too much science fiction is bad. The two officers soon encounter Rex as he terrorizes the citizenry. They swiftly turn their motorcycles around and decide to go report in immediately.

From below him, Rex hears someone say that the bigger they are, the more noise they make when they fall. Rex turns to see the Turtles. Raffaello tells Leonardo that now he knows he wasn’t joking about how big the dinosaur is. Leonardo expresses doubt that Rex is invulnerable though. Leonardo attacks, slashing at Rex’s foot with a katana without effect. Rex demands to know who he is and then picks up the Turtle. Rex examines him and says he looks like a relative to him, but he must not take that for granted. Leonardo calls him “uncle” and says to leave him alone.

Meanwhile, Splinter is climbing a nearby emergency ladder. He thinks to himself that while Leonardo keeps Rex busy, he’ll try to land his most devastating blow yet. Splinter leaps, but Rex slaps him out of the air, calling him an annoying insect. Raffaello notes that Rex is too tough even for Master Splinter. Suddenly, Shredder calls out for the Turtles to hold on, as reinforcements are coming. Michelangelo is surprised and asks if Shredder is really there to help them. Shredder tells him that Rex poses a threat to him, too. He adds that if his plan works, it won’t be for long.

Bebop and Rocksteady, carrying special weapons, try to silently sneak up on Rex. Bebop says they must take him from behind. Rocksteady says that one shot from their time rifles will send him back to prehistory. Suddenly, Rex yells for them not to step on his tail and uses it to send the pair flying. Shredder gets his attention and tells Rex that he’s forced him to use the weapon he’s holding. Rex is not impressed and asks what he thinks he’s going to do with that toy. Shredder informs him that it’s loaded with retro-mutagen gas. It will turn him back into a dull lizard.

Rex thanks him for the explanation and proceeds to flick him against a sign post. Splinter leaps to catch the gun when Shredder drops it. With the gun in hand, Splinter has a moment where he agonizes over using the retro-mutagen gas on himself, so he can return to normal. However, he knows he can’t place his personal interest over the salvation of the world and he quickly blasts Rex with the gun.

The retro-mutagen works and Rex is returned to his original form. Donatello states that the beast is still dangerous and grabs one of the time rifles. He uses it to send Rex back to his own time in history. Bebop and Rocksteady pick Shredder up and flee, worried that the Turtles will send them into the past as well. Later, at the lair, Splinter enjoys some tea and comments that it all ended well, but it was an unbelievable case. Donatello agrees, saying it’s not often you see a Tyrannosaur in New York. Splinter chuckles and says he was referring to Shredder. He never would have believed he’d have him as an ally.
