In Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Huginn is a servant of Baron Draxum.
Appearance[]
Huginn is a gargoyle Yōkai with red eyes, pointed ears, a black body, and a short tail. He has bat-like wings and four fingers on his hands and three toes on his feet. Unlike Muninn, Huginn has an underbite[1], visible nostrils, and a thin figure.
Personality[]
Huginn is somewhat dim-witted, but is relatively cheery and laid-back. He is also slightly more clever than Muninn.
History[]
13 years prior to the start of the series, Huginn was a part of Goyles of Fortune with Huginn, however, the two were often demeaned by their fellow gargoyles and overlooked by potential employers due to their small size and lack of physical strength. Huginn and Muninn didn't aspire for prestige, merely seeking to be hired by someone who would provide them a dog bed with "medium-quality foam" to lounge in. Sarge Goyle assigned Huginn and Muninn to transport two other gargoyles to Draxum's laboratory where they were requested to go. The two gargoyles were captured by a lava demon after Huginn decided to take the dangerous route of Devil's Backbone to impress Sarge Goyle. Huginn and Muninn didn't realize their absence until arriving at Draxum's laboratory where they then pretended to be the gargoyles Draxum asked for. Huginn and Muninn were ordered to bridle Draxum's unicorn and to kidnap Lou Jitsu from the Battle Nexus. They gained entry to Champions' Row, where the Battle Nexus competitors resided, by having Muninn pose as a competitor. Huginn was officially employed by Draxum after delivering Lou Jitsu to him and was given a dog bed. Huginn and Muninn later tried to assist Draxum when he was locked in combat with Lou Jitsu by freeing his unicorn in hopes it would kill Lou Jitsu, but it only attacked them and kicked them into the laboratory's main machine. The damage to the main machine caused the laboratory to explode and the destruction of Draxum's alchemical research. However, Huginn and Muninn lied to Draxum by claiming Lou Jitsu was to blame for the laboratory's collapse.
Huginn debuted in "Mystic Mayhem". He watched Draxum test his newly recreated ooze formula on Stewart. Huginn later fought April O'Neil to stop her from freeing Mayhem from his cage. Eventually, Huginn was defeated by April, but saved by Draxum.
Huginn reappeared in "Bug Busters". He was watching a Battle Nexus match in the Grand Nexus Hotel's sporting lounge with Muninn when he spotted the Turtles following Big Mama on a tour of the hotel's Yōkai section. Huginn left with Muninn to inform Draxum on the Turtles' whereabouts. Huginn later returned with Draxum in Big Mama's hotel office where they tried to take back Draxum's Oozesquitoes from Big Mama, but were attacked by Gus before they could.
In "The Evil League of Mutants", Huginn attended the first meeting of the Evil League of Mutants at Radisson Hotel. He and Muninn were ordered by Draxum to organize a list of the cruelest mutants to recruit for the League. He sang "Todd's Lemonade" at the meeting to explain the reason for the League's creation. Later that night, Huginn traveled to a New Jersey warehouse with the rest of the League to fool the Turtles into going there.
Huginn assisted Draxum with dislodging a Kuroi Yoroi shard from Middle Park Zoo in "Shadow of Evil". He, Muninn, and Draxum were confronted by the Turtles, but ignored them and entered Draxum's portal after collecting the shard. Later that night, Huginn traveled with Draxum to a train station were the rest of the Foot Clan were gathered in a battle against the Turtles.
Huginn accompanied Draxum to Hypno-Potamus and Warren Stone's apartment in "Warren & Hypno, Sitting in a Tree" to steal Charlotte from Warren. Huginn later wrote a letter to the Mad Dogs with Muninn arranging a meet-up with Draxum to trade the gauntlet for Hypno, who had been abducted by Draxum, Huginn, and Muninn. Huginn tried to pry Charlotte from Warren's hand and teleported elsewhere with Draxum after obtaining Charlotte.
Huginn attended a Foot Clan initiation ceremony in "How to Make Enemies and Bend People to Your Will" and revealed to Draxum that he and Muninn were of a higher rank in the clan than Draxum, who was rank zero. Muninn asked Huginn to mark his face with a mock Foot Clan symbol to see what he would look like once fully integrated into the clan. Later, Huginn traveled to the botanical garden with the rest of the Foot on a mission to collect another Kuroi Yoroi fragment. Huginn and Muninn did nothing when the Turtles ran past them with Foot Recruit in pursuit, believing it would be pointless to alert the clan. Huginn was perched on Draxum when he overtook the Foot Clan and became its new leader.
In "Insane in the Mama Train", Huginn went with Draxum to Big Mama's train station to exchange the Mystic Orb for the Foot's privacy about their mission.
Huginn was with Draxum at the Shredder's shrine in "End Game" and observed as he fought Splinter. He was later struck by Draxum out of anger once he donned the Kuroi Yoroi and he and Muninn remarked on Draxum's altered appearance.
Huginn went to New York with Muninn in "Goyles, Goyles, Goyles" to find a new employer after Draxum was gravely injured by the Kuroi Yoroi and became a wanted criminal in the Hidden City. They gave their résumé to Meat Sweats after seeing his "looking for lunch" sign and misreading it as "looking for help". Huginn and Muninn were then abducted and caged by Meat Sweats, who prepared to cook them. The predicament made Huginn and Muninn reminiscence about the first time they met Draxum. They unintentionally wound up being his employees after an accident occurred with the gargoyles he originally requested and it was their abduction of Lou Jitsu that had Draxum hire them. Huginn and Muninn then escaped Meat Sweats' cage alive.
Huginn was depicted in "Hidden City's Most Wanted" on a Hidden City Police wanted poster.
Abilities[]
- Flight: Huginn's retractable wings enable him to fly.
- Gargoyle physiology: Gargoyle Yōkai are known to be capable of splitting wood with their bodies and Huginn is no exception.
Relationships[]
Friends and allies[]
- Muninn: Huginn has a close friendship with Muninn. They were both a part of Goyles of Fortune and looked down upon by the other Goyles of Fortune gargoyles due to their lack of strength. They trust one another greatly, share a similar sense of humor, and split a salary. Huginn is more optimistic than Muninn is and often consoles him when facing problems. Huginn loves when Muninn retells stories because they "make him warm inside".
- Baron Draxum: Huginn has worked for Draxum for 13 years. He first met Draxum to introduce a different pair of gargoyles that Draxum had requested. Huginn was instantly impressed by Draxum and liked him, especially his shoulders. Huginn's job is to work in the interests of Draxum regardless if Draxum is physically present and to perch on his shoulders as his living shoulder pad. Huginn considers Draxum to be "extremely caring" as an employer and "quite passionate". Despite his fondness for Draxum, he lied to him about the cause of the destruction of his laboratory to avoid upsetting Draxum and never confessed. Huginn often calls him "boss".
Enemies[]
- Hamato Yoshi / Lou Jitsu / Splinter: Huginn first met Lou Jitsu at the Battle Nexus after he was ordered to abduct him from Champions' Row so that Draxum could use him to create an army to destroy humanity. Huginn tried to use Draxum's unicorn to kill Lou Jitsu and blamed Lou Jitsu for the destruction of Draxum's laboratory despite it being untrue to protect himself.
- Big Mama: Huginn stole Lou Jitsu from Big Mama's grasp 13 years prior to 2018. He is shown watching Battle Nexus matches in Big Mama's Grand Nexus Hotel sporting lounge, whether he is welcome there is unclear.
- Gus: Huginn was bitten by Gus in "Bug Busters" when he and Muninn attempted to steal the jar of Oozesquitoes from Big Mama.
- Mayhem: Huginn let Draxum trap Mayhem and bullied him while he was imprisoned in "Mystic Mayhem" by prodding him with a stick through the cage bars.
- The Mad Dogs: Huginn frequently faces the Mad Dogs because they oppose Draxum, but lacks true malice towards them.
- April O'Neil: Huginn attacked April in "Mystic Mayhem" after she tried to rescue Mayhem, but was defeated by her.
- Warren Stone: Huginn broke into Warren's apartment and stole Charlotte from him for the Foot.
- Mezmer-Ron / Hypno-Potamus: Huginn broke into Hypno's apartment and abducted him to lure Warren back to Draxum after Warren and Hypno were separated so that Draxum could steal Charlotte.
- Rupert Swaggart / Meat Sweats: Huginn tried to have Meat Sweats employ him and Muninn after they lost contact with Draxum, but Meat Sweats attempted to eat him instead.
Others[]
- Sarge Goyle: Huginn was supervised by Sarge at Goyles of Fortune and wished to improve his poor opinion of him and Muninn by impressing him.
Trivia[]
- Huginn and Muninn are named after Odin's pet ravens in Norse mythology.[2][3]
