A hoverboard is a (largely fictional) method of transportation, which consists of a "board" which is suspended slightly above the ground through some mechanism, allowing riders greater freedom than with the similar skateboard. Most actual existing hoverboards are large, clunky, expensive, and do not offer the freedom and access to consumers that the fictional version does. In the late 2010s, the term came to be used on self-balancing scooters, despite the fact that that item does not hover at all.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles appearances[]
Video games[]
A circular hoverboard is used in both The Manhattan Project and Turtles in Time, both by the Ninja Turtles and Foot Soldiers.
2003 TV series[]
The board was first introduced in the episode "The Return of Nano". Donatello built a 'flying skateboard' for Michelangelo, apparently using Utrom technology. It is seen again in "Worlds Collide, Part 1", as Michelangelo uses it to evade the Triceratons while protecting one part of Professor Honeycutt's robotic body.
IDW[]
In the story Identity Theft, a part of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Black, White & Green anthology series, Michelangelo, Raphael and Leonardo take turns riding the new hoverboard that Donatello had built.
Action figures[]
Hoverboards were included as accessories for
- Zak, the Neutrino (1991 action figure)
- Toon Zak (1992 action figure)
- Cody (2006 action figure)
- Turtles in Time Donatello (2020 action figure)
- Turtles in Time Foot Soldier (2020 action figure)
- Turtles in Time Leonardo (2020 action figure)
The hoverboard design for the Turtles in Time figures is more like the traditional "board" than the circular ones seen in the game.
