Some TMNT stuff really isn't for little kids. |
The Grybyx is a furry little creature with two antennae and a long snout. They are very rare and extremely valuable creatures, who are also quite intelligent. The Grybyx have natural telekinetic abilities and a keen sense of smell. They also have to be kept on a strict liquid diet when they aren’t in the wild, because if given even a crumb of solid food, they morph into big, vicious hunter-trackers who are virtually uncontrollable.
The Grybyx is first seen in the arms of smuggler Torbin Zixx, in the Smasharino Arena, a part of the Blastorama Pleasuredome in Dimension X. Bundled in a blanket, the Grybyx is asleep and remains that way even when Zixx shoves it into Kala’s arms so that he can flee from the Nova Posse. When the Neutrino/Earthling party joins up with the Nova Posse, they bring the little Grybyx with them.
It is revealed in The Armageddon Game issue 3, that the Nova Posse was contracted by Stump and Sling to retrieve the Grybyx after Zixx stole all of them from the Stump Asteroid. The Posse catches up to Zixx after his ship breaks down and he’s forced to land on an asteroid in the Astraea Asteroid Belt.
Trapped, Zixx tells them that before he surrenders, he wants to tell them about his Grybyx contraband. His disabled ship is shown to hold several of the creatures. After describing their abilities, he tells the group that the greedy idiots Stump and Sling meant to stuff the Grybyx full of food and make them rip each other to pieces during the main ticket at the next Grappleganza. Illegal Grybyx cage fighting. Zixx says that a conservation group called the Caretakers hired him to get the Grybyx and take them to the exotic species sanctuary on the Mivey Meteor. Zixx stole them to save them.
When the Posse attempts to take Zixx into custody, he eludes them by use of a hologram and then sending out false location signals on both himself and his ship. Michelangelo then has an idea. He takes the Grybyx from Princess Trib and feeds it a piece of candy before removing the blanket and setting the Grybyx on the ground. The Grybyx immediately shoots up to an enormous size, its mouth now full of sharp teeth and hands with long claws.
Michelangelo holds up the blanket for the Grybyx to sniff, asking it to remember who gave it the blanket. The Grybyx immediately takes off running, busting through a hologram of Zixx and his ship before catching the scent of its actual quarry.
Zixx sees it coming and frantically works to repair his ship. He manages to do so, but is too late as the Grybyx is now standing over him. Its antennae light up, activating its telekinetic abilities, and Zixx is lifted into the air. Michelangelo, who has been using a jet pack to follow the Grybyx, sees that it’s about to eat Zixx, and uses his special gift to make the Grybyx shrink back to its non-lethal form.
Princess Trib then convinces Commander Azul to allow Zixx to transport the Grybyx to the Mivey Meteor. They release Zixx, who tells Kala to keep the Grybyx she’s holding, as they seem to have bonded. He tells her that he’s getting paid the same no matter how many he brings back.
