In most instances, Foot Soldiers are the most common enemy the Turtles face in any given video game. Often, they will come in many colors, each wielding a different weapon.

Although the illustration in the instruction manual is similar to its appearance in the 1987 TV series, the sprite does not reflect this, instead taking on the appearance of a bizarre, lanky ninja in dark blue/purplish clothing. They often attack with physical strikes and shuriken. Foot Soldiers are sometimes utilized as mini-bosses. On the Technodrome boss they jump out of it dressed in red.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (arcade game)[]

Trained in Shredder's Taekwando gym, these maximum offenders are brainwashed to destroy the turtles at any cost. Main enemy of Scene 4.

The most common Foot Soldier in the arcade game are the standard purple-wearing ninja, attacking with physical strikes and shuriken. These are referred to as "Karate Foot Soldiers" in Nintendo Power articles. Sometimes, purple Foot Soldiers do wield a weapon, including spears, tires, bombs, and manhole covers.

The color/weapon match-up in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time was:

  • Purple – Unarmed
  • Blue – A blade weapon, such as a katana, sai or battle axe
  • Pink – A pair of tonfā or shuriken
  • Orange – Kunai Daggers or a kusarigama
  • White – Nunchaku
  • Yellow - Some form of boomerang, or bombs
  • Green - Bow and arrows

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge changed up the color/weapon match-ups for most the Foot Soldiers, and also introduced several new variants. The variants featured in this game include:

  • Purple - Unarmed
  • Cyan - A blunt weapon, typically a tonfā or wrench
  • Indigo - Shield
