Foot Ninja (sometimes named Foot Soldier) are a common enemy in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video games. They often carry different weapons, such as bo staffs, bow & arrows, and katanas, although they typically do not take on different appearances/colors as their 1980's counterpart did. The exceptions would be Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3: Mutant Nightmare (which had standard, purple, and red versions of the Foot Ninja), Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Arcade Attack (which had blue and red Foot Ninja), and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Double Damage (which added yellow Foot Ninja). These instances appeared to be deliberately invoking the multi-colored Foot minions of yesteryear.
Appearances[]
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2003 video game)[]
Foot Ninja appear in the fourth area of Stage 1: Things Change and become a common enemy fought in all stages except 2 and 5, as well as the first and final training missions. There are only two types of Foot Ninja available to fight:
- The katana-wielding Foot Ninja runs close to a hero and attempts to slash them with basic swings, include doing up to a three-hit combo.
- The bo staff-wielding Foot Ninja remain idle and throw Shuriken at a fair pace. When a hero gets close enough, the ninja will give chase and strike with swings of his bo staff.
Additionally, both versions of Foot Ninja can dodge attacks by backflipping. In Stages 4 and 6, Foot Ninja may also pilot a small hovercraft. These enemies are referred to as Foot Bees.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: Battle Nexus[]
They behave similarly to their previous console appearance, except they come with some minor differences:
- The katana-wielding Foot Ninja is now the only variant that can perform a backflip to dodge attacks while also doing it far less often; they also gain two new attacks, including a downward slash and a running slash.
- The bo staff-wielding Foot Ninja, meanwhile, no longer stands idle and throws Shuriken. They instead become somewhat more combative on par with their katana variant.
- In addition, there is a Foot Ninja variant that comes armed with a bow, serving as a separate projectile type of Foot Ninja. Their arrows can either be standard or possess an additional effect, most commonly fire and sleeping gas. They can fire up to three standard arrows in a row, and only one fire arrow and sleeping gas arrow at a time. Michelangelo can deflect standard arrows through blocking, but he can't do the same for fire arrows nor sleeping gas arrows.
Foot Ninja make no appearance in the Game Boy Advance version of the game, though their Feudal variants do appear.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3: Mutant Nightmare[]
Identical to their Battle Nexus appearance, they can now appear in a variety of colors to denote their strength and power level, with the default coloration being the weakest, purple being slightly tougher, and red being the strongest. The default coloration also appears in the Nightmare Free Battle with a significant stat increase, making them the strongest version of Foot Ninja available.
TMNT: Mutant Melee[]
TMNT: Mutant Melee introduced the very first playable Foot Ninja.
Trivia[]
In Mutant Melee, Michelangelo quips upon defeat by a Foot Ninja "All right, I'm convinced that the Foot are a horde of robots!", which is an allusion to the Foot's incarnation in the 1987 series.
