In the IDW continuity, the helmet of Oroku Saki, the Shredder, sees plot significance in the story arc Fox Hunt. After Splinter kills Oroku Saki and becomes the new jōnin of the Foot Clan, Kitsune stages an attempt to kill Splinter and recover Saki's remains from his tomb. Kitsune fails to kill Splinter, but escapes Foot Headquarters with Saki's stolen burial box. But when she looks inside, she finds that Splinter has already secretly swapped the remains with the Shredder's helmet, having already anticipated Kitsune's treachery and robbing her of another chance to resurrect her Dragon Warrior.
