An exo-suit is a wearable prosthetic body or vehicle which is piloted by someone else located entirely inside the suit. It is distinguished from other vehicles in that it is generally shaped like a lifeform (usually humanoid) rather than as a generic vehicle, extending a significant level of body movement. It is also distinguished from exo-armor in that it is a suit with an overall body plan structure, rather than merely an outer layer of protective substance. It is also distinguished from mere cybernetics in that the exo-suit's pilot can readily remove themselves from the suit. Exo-suits are usually (but not always) robotic, and they can also be armored.
Exo-suits have a long history in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise, debuting early in the original Eastman and Laird's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles with the introduction of the alien Utroms inhabiting the Techno Cosmic Research Institute, who wore exo-suits covered in human-like skins as a disguise.
