Some TMNT stuff was always meant for grownups. |
Emil Tendaji is an anti-poacher working for the Species Protection and Relocation Establishment ("S.P.A.R.E") and personal nemesis of illegal big game hunter Jack Marlin, who he had been tasked with bringing in.
History[]
Emil had chased Marlin to Madagascar, where he had just missed his quarry after he'd shot the very last Madagascan blue elephant. Marlin headed to New York City, where sightings had been reported of a "large alligator" in the sewers.
Emil tracked him to New York. Just as the Turtles were investigating a corridor in the sewer, which had signs of having recently been used, Marlin busted through a wall and held them at gunpoint. Leatherhead appeared and interrupted him, causing him to faint.
Leatherhead and the Turtles left Marlin alone and began walking, with Leatherhead telling them his story. Marlin recovered and cornered them at a bridge; Leatherhead and the Turtles ran across and the gator broke it with his tail to keep Marlin from following them, but he drew a bead on them with his rifle. Emil showed up just in time and flung a knife into Marlin's hand, severing the tendon to his trigger finger. Marlin protested that he didn't even know who his pursuer was, but Emil didn't even dignify his enemy with his name, just told him he intended to take him in to the authorities. Marlin backed up to evade Emil and fell off the ledge where the bridge had once been, plummeting to what all parties present assumed was his death. Leatherhead
Marlin ended up surviving, replacing his damaged body parts with prosthetics. He later hired some mercenaries, including Razorback to track down Leatherhead again, this time to serve as game to a group of rich hunters on his Hobb's Gate compound, along with a host of other cryptids. Donatello found out where they took the Turtles' friend and they arrived there to rescue him, fighting off the cryptids, hunters, and mercs. After freeing him, Leatherhead turned to his captor and old nemesis. Marlin shot his right eye out, and he threw Marlin into the water to be attacked by Bunyips. Emil arrived and had one of this men, Jase, tranquilize Leatherhead so they could transport him back home. As they take Leatherhead and the Turtles back to New York, Emil finally introduces himself by name to the Turtles, and they remember him from years ago. Emil and his crew intend to return all of the cryptids, who are noted to be among the last of their kinds, to their homes as well, and hand off Razorback and his men off to Australian Interpol agents. World's Deadliest
However, this was not the last of Marlin. He had pried off his prosthetics and swam away from the Bunyips, recovered replacement parts, and retrieved a rocket launcher, all before they could leave on their helicopter. He shot down the chopper, leaving Emil, his men, the Turtles, and Leatherhead to drudge through swampland. They fought off a pair of Mothmen, with Emil denying too much damage to them due to their rarity. However, one of Emil's men had been bitten by one of the Mothmen, and they needed to seek medical attention to him, quickly.
Marlin returns in a flying saucer that his company's research and development team whipped up, and fires at the group. Raph brings it down by flinging a sai at it, and the Turtles have to convince Leatherhead again to not kill Marlin. Emil places Marlin and handcuffs and he asks Emil why he does the "devil's work" helping the "abominations". Emil responds that they were all creatures of God and he does His bidding.
Marlin secretly picks his handcuff with a lockpick he had hidden, as the group brings their injured companion to the Martech R&D compound, where the rest of his group are. They find the compound trashed, and a genetically altered "Boss Monster" responsible, amidst the rubble. The Turtles try to fight it off, and in contrast to the Mothmen, encourages his men to take a shot if they can get a clean one. They are unable to do so, and Leatherhead puts down the injured man to assault it. Unfortunately, Marlin, far away in a speedboat, turns fire on the monster and Leatherhead, riddling them with bullets from a hull-mounted machine gun. However, the Loch Ness Monster suddenly pops out of the water and drags Marlin underneath, chomping him and seemingly ending his life at last.
Emil, the Turtles, Leatherhead, and the rest of the S.P.A.R.E. agents are taken back to their headquarters in Mayotte. The injured mutants and men spend two weeks recovering, after which Emil says they've all been given permission to be discharged. On their way out of the facility so they can return them home, Emil mentions Marlin's boat was empty, and they all assume he got away again. Monster Island
