Summary[]
Shredder, Bebop and Rocksteady are in the main control room of the Technodrome when their leader, Krang enters. He has been reading a book on Ancient Egypt and found a reference to the mystery of the pyramids. Krang is sure the Egyptians had some secret power and he means to discover what it was and use it against the world. His solution to the fact that the last pyramid was built centuries ago is to use the Time Machine he has just invented.
Krang leads the group to the Technodrome’s workshop and presents the Time Machine. It is an old garbage truck and Shredder is not impressed. Krang explains that not everyone can afford a De Lorean. He then shows them that he converted a second garbage truck in case the first blows up. Bebop says that he does not like the sound of that. As Footbots complete some last minute work on the Time Machine, Krang and the others climb in and get set to go to Ancient Egypt. Bebop asks if they speed forwards leaving a burning trail behind them, but Krang says no, they speed backwards, leaving a trail of rubbish in their wake. He does exactly that, running over a few Footbots on the way.
The Time Machine moves backwards in time and they can see the years flying past. Finally they accomplish a hard landing on sand, having reached Ancient Egypt. Krang informs the others that construction of the pyramids is due to begin today in the spot near where they landed. Just as Shredder commends Krang for being a genius, a group of Ancient Egyptians comes upon them. Calling them foreign invaders, the leader orders they be seized. Krang immediately tells the mutants to use their lasers, but before they can fire, the Egyptians use their spears to disarm the pair.
The travelers are taken prisoner and the Egyptians bring the laser rifles along. Brought before the local Pharaoh, the captives are told to kneel and Krang complains he has no knees. One of the Egyptian guards presents a laser rifle to the Pharoah, who demands to see how they are used. The guard fires, nearly hitting Bebop, and the Pharoah states that he likes the new weapons. He then spots the book that Krang is holding and snatches it from his tentacle. The Pharoah flips through the book and decides he likes the so called ‘pyramids’ and announces that they will build some.
Soon the building of the first pyramid is underway and Pharoah tells his engineer to follow the teachings of Krang’s book closely. The workers also use the laser rifles, which Pharoah calls ‘fire sticks’ to cut the stones. Krang fusses at Shredder for giving them the secret power to build the pyramids, but is reminded that the idea to time travel was actually his. The Pharoah tells them not to argue and that they are owed a reward. Rocksteady asks if its gold and jewels, but the Pharoah says it is not – the reward is that when the first pyramid is finished, they will be put inside and then sealed up alive. Pharoah orders they be taken from his sight and Bebop asks Krang how they avoid becoming mummies. Krang in turn instructs Shredder to use the special Time-Zone-To-Time-Zone-Portable Phone.
Shredder does so, placing a call to April O'Neil. She quickly tells him to go and bother someone else, but he begs her to listen, that their lives depend on it. After the phone call, April goes straight to the lair to tell the Turtles what happened. Leonardo says that Shredder has some nerve asking for their help and Raphael agrees, saying they should leave the bad dudes to their fate. Splinter, however, disagrees. He tells them that the ninja code teaches that as bad as your enemies are, they cannot be allowed to suffer such a terrible fate. Besides that, the lasers must be recovered or they’ll change history. Dubbing it ‘operation geek rescue’, the Turtles head out.
In a short while, they reach the Technodrome, courtesy of Shredder’s instructions. Once inside, they go directly to the workshops and find the second Time Machine. Entering the Time Machine, they blast into reverse. However, they land first in the Cretaceous period, quite near a Tyrannosaurus rex and a Triceratops. Realizing the navigational error, they try again and this time land in the correct time period, seeing the other Time Machine nearby. As the Turtles exit the garbage truck, they are spotted by Egyptian guards who rush to seize them. Leo tells his team to use minimum force in defending themselves.
The Turtles get an abrupt surprise when one of the guards fires on them with a laser rifle. Leo and Donatello quickly remove the rifles from the two guards who are carrying them. In minutes, the fight is over and all the guards lay unconscious on the sand. The Turtles head for the pyramid, and Raph wonders how they’ll get in because there are no doors. Michaelangelo says he has a solution and uses the two confiscated laser rifles to blast an opening in the pyramid. They enter and immediately set off a trap as a huge boulder comes rolling towards them. Flattening themselves against the walls, the Turtles avoid being squashed and Mikey guesses they could get a part in ‘Indiana Jones’ now.
Unfortunately for the green team, the boulder is not the only trap as they dodge a rain of spears, falling rocks, a pit filled with crocodiles and snakes that comes slithering out of small openings in the walls. Finally, they locate the room that the geeks have been locked in and use a pulley system to pull up the large stone blocking the doorway. Mikey comments on their manners when the villains don’t thank them for the rescue, but Leo just urges them to hurry because he, Don and Raph are straining to keep the stone aloft.
The geeks and Turtles flee the pyramid together, but as they step into the light, see that an entire army of Egyptians are waiting for them. Everyone makes a mad dash for the Time Machines as spears rain down all around them. Once inside the trucks, they quickly close the doors to avoid picking up any stowaways. Putting the Time Machines in reverse, the two groups barrel through time and make it back to the Technodrome. However, they are still in reverse when they touch down and the two vehicles ram into each other. The Time Machines are destroyed, much to Raphael’s delight. With their job finished, the Turtles head back to the sewers. The next day, a bandaged and black-eyed Krang rants that he’s glad only the Turtles know about the previous day’s disasters. Then Rocksteady calls his attention to a TV program about Ancient Egypt. There is a close-up of a wall of hieroglyphs that include an image of Krang, Shredder, Bebop and Rocksteady fleeing from a chariot. The TV narrator says that many years ago, Egyptian artists painted the strange scene but it is not known what they indicate. Krang looks directly at the reader and admonishes them not to dare tell anyone it’s him in those paintings.
