The Turtles are relaxing in their lair in the sewers, when abruptly Michaelangelo’s stomach rumbles loudly. He complains that he is starving and Raphael teases that he’s always hungry – for pizza. They decide to head to the local takeaway to get some but Leonardo says he’ll stay and keep Splinter company. The other Turtles slip into their disguises and head out, promising to bring pizza back for Leo. After they are gone, Splinter approaches Leo and asks for the real reason he chose to remain at home, because he senses something is wrong.

Leo says that he wanted to talk to Splinter alone. Recently he’s become afraid of failing his brothers in combat. Splinter offers the advice he received in Japan when he was Leo’s age: “It is better for a ninja to consider failure, rather than for a ninja to fail”. Leo says that he believes he understands and that having fears isn’t so bad after all. He suddenly notices a shadow in the tunnel which indicates someone is approaching quickly. It turns out to be April O'Neil who is not there on a social call.

She was driving her Channel 6 newsvan on the way to see the Turtles when she spotted Mikey, Donatello and Raph coming out of a manhole. They had all just greeted each other when suddenly, Footbots appeared from all around the Turtles. It was an ambush, led by Shredder. Though they fought valiantly, the Turtles were seriously outnumbered and captured. April tries to drive away to get help, but Shredder shouts for Bebop and Rocksteady to stop her. Swerving the van to avoid them, April hit a fire hydrant and water sprayed everywhere. This gave her the chance to run to the manhole and drop into the tunnels.

April isn’t sure why Shredder’s mutants didn’t follow her. She ran all the way to the lair to tell Leo and Splinter what happened. Leo guesses that Shredder took his brothers to the Technodrome. Splinter says that tonight the two of them will make a little night raid. April wants to go with them, but Splinter says no, the danger is too great. He asks her to leave them so they can prepare their minds for battle. April wish them good luck and departs.

For hours, Splinter and Leo sit in meditation, neither speaking or moving. At midnight, the pair head out. At the Technodrome, Bebop and Rocksteady are standing late night guard duty and both are complaining about that and the cold. Splinter and Leo spring on them and knock the pair out cold before entering the Technodrome. They soon encounter a Footbot patrol and engage, destroying the robots quickly. When a larger contingent of Footbots appear, Splinter tells Leo to remain hidden, as sometimes it is wiser not to fight.

When the coast is clear, Splinter leads the way down a corridor, telling Leo that he senses the presence of the other Turtles just ahead. They reach a darkened room and Leo asks he perhaps this was too easy. Splinter concurs, saying the dark could hide a Footbot army, but it does hide Michaelangelo, Donatello and Raphael. They are tied to posts and quite happy to see the rest of their family coming to the rescue. Raph says that Shredder dumped them in the room and left.

Even as he speaks, the lights go on. Standing on a platform above the room are Shredder and Krang, watching as a large squad of Footbots surround the mutant family. Shredder gloats over the way they fell into his trap and Krang asks what it feels like to be doomed. Before they have a chance to free the other Turtles, Splinter and Leo are attacked. Fighting side-by-side the pair begin destroying Footbots, with Splinter calling out ninja wisdom as they battle. Krang shouts at Shreddder that their forces are being beaten, so Shredder calls for reinforcements. Another squad of Footbots arrive and as they are set upon, Leo references the talk they had back in the lair. Splinter asks if he’s afraid now, but Leo says no, he’s just proud to be fighting alongside his father. As Splinter tells Leo that he is also proud, a Footbot hits him from behind. When Leo rushes to his rescue, a half-dozen Footbots pile on top of him.

Krang gleefully announces that the Turtle and mutant rat are finished. However, the other three Turtles manage to break their bonds and join the fight. They quickly begin making short work of the remaining Footbots, which causes Krang and Shredder to decide they need to escape. Before they can leave, Raph and Mikey kick a pair of Footbots heads up to the platform. The heads bash into Krang and Shredder’s heads. Raph takes out the last Footbot and then the Turtles begin digging through the pile of Footbot remains in search of Splinter and Leo.

They finally uncover the pair, who appear unconscious. When Don mentions pizza, both awaken and all are soon back in the lair, along with April. As they enjoy a meal of pizza, Mikey tells Leo that he and Splinter really saved the day. Leo says it was lucky he decided to stay behind in the beginning. Don asks why he decided to stay behind. Smiling, Leo glances at Splinter and says that’ll stay a secret, asking if his father agrees. Which of course, Splinter does.
