Donatello is one of four young turtles who were involved in an accident involving a mutagenic "ooze". Considered the most intelligent of the Ninja Turtles, Donatello appears in the first, second, third, and fourth movie adaptations, as well as his own prequel comic, Strangers in the Night.
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (movie adaptation)[]
The Ninja Turtles witness Channel 6 ace reporter April O'Neil being attacked by a group of punks and intervene. However, Raphael loses a sai in the fight, which is picked up and stashed away by April. As they head back home, Donatello tries to come up with superlatives to match descriptions of their fight already uttered by Leonardo and Michaelangelo. He offers up "Bossa Nova", then "Chevy Nova", receiving odd looks from his siblings. Don finally chooses "Ex-cellent", which earns him their approval. When the Turtles reach the lair, Don and Mikey perform a victory dance. Then he joins Mikey in waiting for their pizza delivery. Later, in a foul mood, Raphael goes out and eventually encounters April again, being attacked by the Foot Clan. He defeats them and takes the now unconscious April back to the lair. Donatello immediately recognizes her as the newslady. Splinter tells April their origin story, and then the Turtles escort her home. However, when they return to the lair, they find it's been trashed and Splinter has been taken. They return to April's apartment and when she opens the door, they tell her that Splinter is gone.
