In the 1990's Le Tartarughe Ninja comics, Donatello is a mutant turtle, and one of the four ninja sons adopted and trained by Hamato Joshi (a.k.a. Splinter), along with his brothers Leonardo, Michelangelo and Raffaello. Donatello's character from these 1990's stories married elements from the Golden Harvest movies with the 1987 TV series and Archie continuity.
Starting in late 2005, the Le Tartarughe Ninja began printing comics based on the 2003 TV series characters.
History 1990's[]
After Leonardo rescues April O'Neil from the Piede Ninjia, he takes her back to the lair. April wakes up startled to find she's in the company of mutant turtles and a mutant rat. To ease her mind, Splinter offers to tell her of their back story; he was once a human man, Hamato Joshi, who lived in the sewer with four baby turtles that he believes a child had lost. One day, a canister of a strange substance began to hyper-evolve the turtles, changing them into anthropomorphs. Joshi himself was turned into a rat-man, as before he found the turtles in their predicament, he had been caring for sewer rats. Joshi, a ninja from Japan, raised these Turtles, one of whom he named Donatello, as his sons and students, training them in the martial art of ninjutsu. Arrivano le Tartarughe
Working in April O’Neil’s garage, Donatello makes modifications to her Channel 6 newsvan which effectively turns it into the Turtle Van. The Tartarughes and April take it out for a field test and end up capturing a pair of thieves. This leads to Leonardo bragging about Donatello's brains to Capitano Stearnes. Il Genio di Donatello
History 2000's[]
The Tartarughe stake out Central Park at 2:00 a.m. as they search for the monster that has been terrorizing the area. Each Tartarughe reports to Leonardo on their area they are watching, and Donatello asks if they are sure a monster exists because it sounds like something made up by a prankster. Reminding them all that Master Splinter sent them on this mission, Leo says they won't disappoint him. A woman arrives and tells Leo she's been treating the animal at her laboratory. The monster, a huge gorilla, arrives and knocks Leo down. Then the other brothers rush up and Don tells Leo that reinforcements have arrived. Il Mostro Del Central Park
