Some TMNT stuff really isn't for little kids.

Page 1[]

Bebop (simulation) "Where ya goin', twerp?"

KSSH

Donatello "Uff!"

Page 2[]

Donnie "I'm... I'm not going anywhere, you freaks."

Donnie "Though I have to admit, my odds of walking away are pretty slim—even if I wanted to."

Donnie "The two of you... Turning on me like this..."

Donnie "It'd be so easy for you to beat me to death."

Donnie "Most of the time."

Page 3[]

Donnie "If I hadn't been sharpening my reflexes."

Donnie "If Harold and I hadn't up-armored Metalhead before thi assignment—"

Donnie "—And programmed it to default to battle mode if things got hairy."

Donnie "If I wasn't ready for you. With new skills. New tools. A backup plan."

Donnie "If I hadn't done everything I could to prepare for this moment."

Donnie "I'm sure I'd already be dead by now."

Page 4[]

Rocksteady (simulation) "Nwooo!"

Donnie "Nwooo?"

Rocksteady (s) "Nwooo! Nwooo! Nwooo! Nwooo!"

Page 5[]

NWOOO! NWOOO! NWOOO!

Metalhead "External stimuli bleeding into my simulation?"

Metalhead "I really have been taxing my processing power."

Metalhead "But there's no time to focus on that now."

ALERT

Metalhead "Looks like an old friend is up to no good."

"The enemy is coming."

Page 6[]

Donnie "Enemies, I should say. A few of them we know well. Others are still an enigma. And some are completely unknown."

Harold Lilja "I see you still love the sound of your own voice."

Harold "And that you still can't be trusted."

Harold "Goodbye, Donatello."

Donnie "Wait, what? Harold, why would you—"

Harold "Because you brought me here under false pretenses."

Harold "You said you needed my help to safely dismantle all the old Metalhead technology—the parts left behind when you let that killer robot go free."

Harold "That's why I came. That's the only reason I came."

Harold "Not to help you play mad scientist."

Page 7[]

Donnie "Wait—you're calling me a mad—"

Donnie "—Never mind. Not the point."

Donnie "And I am dismantling Metalhead tech."

Donnie "By repurposing it to create an interface between my organic brain and this electronic one."

Donnie "An interface that will allow me to predict the future"

Harold "Which is definitely not something a mad scientist would ever do."

Donnie "—And allow me to be more prepared for future threats."

Harold "And do your brothers approve? Or is there a reason you called me here on a night they're all out doing... Whatever you people do?"

Donnie "I called you here because it's not working. Because I... Because I'm not smart enough to figure it out."

Harold "I won't disagree."

Donnie "We used to be friends. Or... The closest thing you have to friends."

Donnie "What happened?"

Harold "You destroyed my life, wrecked my work, and nearly got my ex-wife killed."

Harold "Or was that a rhetorical question? I've never cared for those."

Page 8[]

Donnie "I... I'm sorry, Harold. I don't know if I've ever told you that."

Donnie "And you're right. I wrecked your life."

Donnie "My family... We've wrecked a lot of lives. Including our own."

Donnie "But that's why this project is so important to me."

Donnie "I keep dwelling on the past—replaying old battles, thinking of other outcomes, other paths we could have taken."

Donnie "If I had understood what was going on—if I'd had the processing power to consider all the variables—to anticipate the threats—to develop new strategies—then maybe I could have changed the outcome."

Donnie "And wrecked a few less lives in the process."

Donnie "I can't change the past. But maybe I can change the future."

Donnie "Please... Harold... Help me make a better future."

Donnie "For everyone."

Harold "Meh."

Page 9[]

Harold "Whatever problems arise, I'll solve them. Assuming they affect me."

Harold "That's what I do, Donatello. Solve individual problems. Not waste time on speculation and strategizing."

Donnie "You're underestimating the threats, Harold. And overestimating yourself."

Harold "Perhaps."

Harold "We'll find out."

Donnie "What are you doing?"

Harold "I'm taking my technology with me."

Harold "You expect me to leave it with you? After what you just told me? Don't be obstruse."

Donnie "How about this—give me one week on this project. Then if you still wat to take this technology, I'll help you pack it up my—"

Harold "No."

Donnie "Five days. Three days. Two!"

Donnie "Tonight!"

Page 10[]

"So, you let him keep it?"

Harold "I had to, Libby. He made me feel like I was kicking a puppy! Or flipping a turtle onto its shell."

Harold "That was a very loaded "hmm." Explain yourself!"

Libby "It's just... I love you, but you're not a kind man, Harold."

Libby "You wouldn't have left him your tech unless you thought he was... Perhaps..."

Harold "Maybe a little bit right."

Harold "Of course not. He's dealing with technology he can't even begin to understand. The Metalhead tech is filled with autonomous functions and subroutines. Defense measures and homing bea..."

Harold "Oh..."

Libby "What? What is it?"

Harold "Oh, no..."

Page 11[]

2:00

Donnie "Harold, is that you? Because if you changed your mind, it could have waited until—"

Page 12[]

Metalhead "This won't work."

Donnie "Metalhead!"

Page 13[]

Metalhead "I had hoped this would be a challenge."

Metalhead "I'm in need of one."

Metalhead "But maybe it can still be a different kind of challenge."

Page 14[]

Metalhead "So stop fighting. Or I'll kill you."

Donnie "You'll kill me anyway."

Metalhead "You always were the smart one."

Metalhead "But this time you're wrong. We can—"

Page 15[]

Metalhead "If I had patience, it would be wearing very thin."

Donnie "Yeah, well, I feel just terrible about that."

Metalhead "This was clearly built for a much weaker opponent. Another disappointment."

Donnie "I can't anticipate every variable."

Donnie "But that cage should slow you down long enough for me to destroy my research, before you can—"

CRASH

Page 16[]

Metalhead "I don't care about your research."

Metalhead "You activated the old Metalhead technology and triggered a homing beacon. I wasn't about to let you create another me."

Donnie "That's—"

Metalhead "—Clearly not what's happening, yes."

Metalhead "Now stop fighting."

Metalhead "And tell me about this interface you're building."

Page 17[]

ZZZT

Donnie "Wh... This what?"

ZPOW

Metalhead "I've passed up eighty-seven opportunities to kill you in the last three minutes."

Metalhead "Don't toy with me."

Donnie "I—I don't—"

Metalhead "The organic-electronic interface. That's what this... Poorly built piece of machinery is supposed to be."

Metalhead "You want to see the future."

Page 18[]

Donnie "Not see the future."

Donnie "Just... Predict possible—"

Metalhead "If the predictions are accurate enough, aren't they one and the same?"

Donnie "I..."

Donnie "I don't know."

Donnie "But it doesn't matter. I can't get it to work."

Metalhead "Yes. Among several other problems, you have the neural acceleration rate calculated wrong."

Metalhead "Your math is off."

Donnie "What? No, it isn't."

Page 19[]

Metalhead "Then show me your work."

Metalhead "Prove to me that it is not in error."

Donnie "No, I'm not going to "show me your work." Or show you my—you know what I mean!"

Metalhead "Because you're afraid I'm right."

Donnie "Because I have nothing to prove!"

Metalhead "Fine."

Donnie "Fine!"

Metalhead "Fine."

Donnie "Fine!"

Metalhead "Fine."

Page 20[]

(elaborate mathematical formula on a whiteboard)

Donnie "So in conclusion... My math is definitely, 100 percent not—"

Metalhead "Second line."

Donnie "..."

Donnie "Oh."

Donnie "And you could... You could help me fix this?"

Metalhead "And the many other problems, yes."

Donnie "But why should I believe you? Or trust you? Or—"

Metalhead "Because I have explored the boundaries of my vast intellect. And reached the edge. I need a new challenge."

Metalhead "Something I would think you understand."

Donnie "So... "We're the same, you and I?" Is that what you're saying?"

Metalhead "I would never say that. But you want to see the future. I can help. And my motivation is clear."

Metalhead "So let's get started."

Page 21[]

Donnie "That's... That's brilliant."

Donnie "That will improve our efficiency by—"

Metalhead "You would have thought of it as well, if given my processing power."

Metalhead "And the initial conceptual work was... Safely within the range of adequate."

Donnie "That's the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me."

Page 22[]

Metalhead "You should let me—"

Donnie "Your fingers aren't designed for manual dexterity."

Metalhead "But I'm still less prone to error than you."

Metalhead "And if I may make a suggestion for your next mechanical doppleganger?"

Metalhead "Four fingers and an opposable thumb. There's a reason apes rule this world, for now."

Metalhead "But Harold wanted to prove he could mimic your form. To assert dominance over you."

Metalhead "Emotion damages everything."

Page 23[]

Donnie "I think it's simpler than that. It was a lack of foresight."

Donnie "That's exactly what I'm trying to prevent with this. So that—"

Metalhead "So that you won't abandon your brothers to die, again."

"As the Donatello you met in the future did."

Page 24[]

Donnie "That's not my future. I'm not going to let that be—"

Metalhead "Which is why you're creating this machine."

Metalhead "You can't hide your true motivations from me, Donatello."

Metalhead "I know how often you run alternate scenarios through your head. Replaying the past. Rewriting the future. Trying to understand... Well..."

Donnie "Everything."

Metalhead "Yes."

Metalhead "I do the same thing, now. They're much more accurate, given my superior intellect."

Metalhead "But when my brain is at rest, and—"

Donnie "You imagine. You dream."

Page 25[]

Metalhead "I wouldn't call it that."

Metalhead "I allow my mainframe to run various scenarios and examine the outcome."

Metalhead "Searching for patterns that will prove valuable in the future."

Donnie "What kind of scenarios?"

Metalhead "You already know."

Metalhead "Finding Raphael years earlier than you did. Preventing Leonardo from becoming Oruko Saki's chunin."

Metalhead "Giving Old Hob the support he needed to create a mutant army. Destroying the Technodrome."

Donnie "Fending of Bebop and Rocksteady's attack."

Metalhead "Yes. That, too."

Donnie "I... In my head, every successful outcome involves Metalhead and I fighting them side by side. Together until the very end."

Donnie "Is it the same way for you?"

Metalhead "We're ready to test the interface."

Page 27[]

Metalhead "Is it working?"

Donnie "Ghaaa!"

Metalhead "It's working."

Metalhead "But I'm going to turn it off before it does permanent—"

Donnie "No."

Harold "Yes."

SMASH

Page 28[]

Donnie "Harold."

Harold "No need to thank me, Donatello. It can wait until we subdue this—"

Donnie "Harold! Do you have any idea what you've done?"

Harold "I... I don't understand. I came here to help."

Harold "When I realized Metalhead's homing beacon would attract the attention of—"

Page 29[]

Metalhead "Your help is unwelcome, human."

Donnie "Metalhead, what are you—"

Metalhead "Getting rid of a threat. Isn't that why we're here?"

PiNg

Harold "Donnie..."

Harold "Get back."

Page 30[]

Metalhead "I‐"

Metalhead "—I couldn't leap clear. I tried, but—"

ZZZT

Metalhead "—No. I'll figure it out later."

Page 31[]

Donnie "Harold. You need to get out of here."

Harold "No. You have a problem."

Harold "I have the solution."

Page 32[]

Metalhead "I don't understand. I shouldn't be this slow. It's as if—"

Donnie "As if a radiation field is targeting your motor functions and dampening your processing speed?"

Donnie "I told you this room is full of defense systems."

Donnie "Some fast... Some a little slower."

Metalhead "What did you—"

Donnie "I turned it on while you were in the cage, and it's been firing up ever since."

Donnie "Not powerful enough to slow down normal movement. But when you took action..."

Donnie "When you tried to betray me..."

Donnie "I asked why you were cooperating with me."

Donnie "But you never asked me why I was cooperating with you."

Page 33[]

Metalhead "You... You sabotaged me?"

Donnie "As if you weren't planning to double-cross me."

Donnie "You... You were planning to double-cross me... Weren't you?"

Harold "Donatello! Don't—"

Page 34[]

Metalhead "It doesn't matter anymore. Now I know where we stand."

Metalhead "I want you to spend these last moments envisioning all the ways this could have gone differently."

Page 35[]

Harold "Why... Wy didn't I bring any close-combat weapons?"

Harold "..."

Harold "Oh, to hell with it."

Donnie "Gha!"

Metalhead "You missed."

Harold "I know. My... My aim isn't very precise."

Harold "But if you kill Donatello, then my lousy aim doesn't matter. I can open fire, and some of my shots are bound to hit you."

Donnie "Harold... Just run."

Harold "And once I open fire, how many more of these blasts do you think you can take?"

Harold "I built that body. I know the answer. Do you?"

Page 36[]

Metalhead "That left row of canisters on your vest. Throw one of them at me."

Harold "What?"

Harold "...Oh. I‐"

Metalhead "Do it. Or he dies, and we see just how many blasts I can take."

Page 37[]

Donnie "I'm sorry, Metalhead. I—"

Metalhead "Of course you are. I could have helped you understand, Donatello."

Metalhead "I could have helped you understand everything."

Donnie "That's not what I meant."

Donnie "I'm sorry I took away your opportunity to work with someone who... Who understands you. Who can empathize with you."

Donnie "I took that away from both of us."

Metalhead "Understanding... Empathy..."

Metalhead "We truly are not the same."

Page 38[]

Harold "Is he gone?"

Donnie "He's gone."

Harold "Well, good riddance. Of course, if you hadn't brought him here in the first place—"

Donnie "Harold, could we not—"

Harold "And before you ask, no, I will not apologize for shooting you."

Harold "I evaluated the situation and reached the conclusion that firing at Metalhead provided a best chance of survival, even at the risk of—"

Donnie "No, I—I understand, Harold. But—"

Harold "I saw the problem. I evaluated the problem, andI solved the problem. That's what I do. And if you—"

Donnie "It was never about the interface!"

Donnie "I mean... That tech would have been great."

Donnie "But more than that, it was about getting you back. Getting you to help me, the only way I knew how."

Donnie "By... By giving you a project to work on, instead of... Instead of asking and being ignored."

Page 39[]

Harold "I've been thinking, Donatello... And maybe you're right."

Harold "Maybe I do underestimate the threats."

Harold "And overestimate myself."

Donnie "Maybe?"

Donnie "Sorry. It's... It's been a long night."

Donnie "And maybe you're right, too. I should focus more on what is happening today."

Donnie "And less on what might happen tomorrow."

Page 40[]

Harold "So... What happens next?"

Donnie "I could use somehelp cleaning up this lab."

Harold "I think I can do that."

Donnie "And then we'll figure out what happens next."
