Dire Beaver (originally called Doom Beaver) is the leader of the Dream Beavers. He has Purple fur, glowing red eyes, and a bomb skull symbol on his belly.
He infiltrates Leonardo's dream and then the Turtles' shared dream. In Leonardo's dream he gives Leo super powers, turning him into a super-hero, becomes his super-villain and punches him into the sun.
- The Gary Wright song, "Dream Weaver" is credited by Wes Craven as an inspiration for A Nightmare on Elm Street, a film series where Robert Englund (voice of the Dire Beaver) played Freddy Krueger, a villain who killed people in their dreams.
- The way Dire disappears behind his tail when he says "Now you see me, now you don't." is reminiscent from the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. Coincidentally, both characters are purple.
- Dire Beaver was originally called the Doom Beaver.
