Dheeraj is a young boy in Dreamwave's comic continuity who works inventory at April O'Neil's antique store to earn money to impress the object of his affection, Jaya, enough to take her on a date. Dheeraj is a bright child and recently earned his black belt in kung fu after nine years of study, but had never been in a real fight and utterly lacks confidence.
One day when walking home from the antique store, he notices that Jaya is being roughed up by a local street gang, the Thoogs. He attempts to stop them, but gets thrashed for his troubles. April introduces him to Leonardo, who teaches him important life lessons and instills confidence in him. Thus, when he sees Jaya being attacked again (along with local grocer Mr. Chen, he finally has the nerve to put his skills into action and beats the Thoogs into retreating.
Ultimately, the Thoogs want someone that tough in their gang, despite his earlier choking up. They decide to offer to have him join, but will kill him if he declines.
