In Spirit Walk, Dan is a spirit who takes the form of a tanuki (raccoon dog), and who guides Leonardo through his explorations of the astral plane.
Dan initially appeared as a statue whom Leonardo showed respect for. He came to life and began quizzing the Turtle about his reasons for being on the astral plane, before generating a bridge across a river for Leonardo to walk on. When Kitsune arrived, Dan waited until Leonardo fled from her to lead the Turtle back across the river. Dan's power temporarily trapped Kitsune, allowing Leonardo to escape her, and Leonardo promised to bring two offerings for Dan the next time he visited.
Notes and Trivia
- Dan's role as an unexpected short, plump trickster mentor to Leonardo is very similar to that of the Ancient One in the 2003 TV series.
