Coyote is a recurring character in the various mythologies of assorted Native American tribes, appearing as a trickster god and in Navajo myth, who has been said to exist since before creation.

In Eastman and Laird's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Coyote retains his status as a trickster god, but serves as a major supporting ally to Donatello and Radical in the story Dreams of Stone.

History

Coyote first appears in the background of Donatello's dream in which Radical's grandfather shows the turtle a fight between Radical and Complete Carnage. Later, when Radical moves into the Dreamscape to journey to fight and hopefully finally defeat Complete Carnage, she summons Coyote to ride to her destination. At the climax of the battle, Donatello invokes the trickster god to assist in the fight, at which he transforms the road that the villain had dove into, into water. As Radical flies out of the water unharmed, two giant hands form from the water and drag Complete Carnage in, turning him into water and dispersing him. Coyote then appears in the clouds and laughs as Radical thanks him.

Powers and abilities

  • Functional immortality: As an ancient god, Coyote does not age or die.
  • Mystical trickery: Coyote can utilize his mystical powers to essentially troll mortals.
