Christopher Columbus was an explorer from the Republic of Genoa, who in the year 1492 under the flag of Spain, sailed across the Atlantic Ocean and landed in what became known as the "West Indies". This event later became conflated with "discovering America".
When the Ninja Turtles, Hamato Yoshi, and Ninjara land in the exact spot Columbus did precisely 500 years later, they get caught in an overlap of time and encounter Columbus as he arrives. He has his conquistadors kidnap Donatello and bring him back to his ship so he can take him back to Spain and prove that his mission was a success.
Aboard the ship, Donatello meets The Other, a floating fish god who tells him how they came to arrive in that year, as well as the significance of the horrors Columbus' journey would bring upon the western world. Just as The Other disappears, Michaelangelo kicks down the door and the Turtles and crew escape the ship just in time to get caught in another storm, which returns them to 1992.[1]
