Cerebus the Aardvark is a character created by Dave Sim. Cerebus' own comic spans 300 issues, from 1977 to 2004. He made an appearance in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles issue 8 (Mirage), where the Turtles teamed up with Cerebus to get the Time Scepter back from Savanti Romero.
History[]
Back in the past, we find Cerebus being awakened by his henchmen. It seems that the men are uncomfortable with the aardvark's plan to invade a foreboding castle and so they announce their plan to desert him. Cerebus threatens them and tries to get back to sleep, when Renet and the Turtles emerge through a portal in a flash of magical light. As the Turtles struggle to their feet, we see that within the castle a satyr-like being awakes, alerted to the presence of the Time Scepter.
Leonardo apologizes to Cerebus for crash landing in his camp, but the aardvark is in no mood for discussions. As the two prepare for battle, Renet tells them to chill out and offers to explain everything. While Renet tells the tale of why she's bouncing through time (she was bored), Savanti Romero (the satyr-like man) and his army rush out of the castle to fetch the Scepter.
Trivia[]
- Cerebus is referenced in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, during the Cerberus Mouser boss fight, where Michelangelo comments that the Cerberus Mouser does not resemble an aardvark. This refers to the confusing similarity between Cerebus' name and that of the three-headed dog Cerberus of Greek mythology.
- Dave Sim's 2018 comic book "Teenage Mutant Ninja Cerebi" is a parody of the TMNT using four Cerebus-esque aardvarks - Rembrandt, Van Gogh, Picasso, and Pollock.
