Synopsis[]

Now occupying Karai’s body, Traveler lifts Casey Jones high into the air by his throat. He asks if he is to believe Casey has no fight left in him. Traveler says he knew Karai was wrong to defend Casey’s honor. Casey frees himself by lifting his knee to strike Traveler beneath the chin. Before Traveler can recover, Casey strikes again, knocking him aside. With a free second, Casey attempts to contact Natsu with his earwig, but curses when he can’t get a signal.

Traveler kicks him, saying that no help is coming and he cannot flee. As Casey ducks a punch, he says he can’t even spell the word “flee”. If he can’t get help, he’ll take Traveler down himself. As he throws more punches, Casey demands to know what he did with Karai. Traveler claims to have told her the truth, that he is disloyal and cannot be trusted. Since she chose not to destroy Casey, Traveler decided to take matters into his own hands. Karai’s body is now his and he will do what must be done. He delivers a punch that turns Casey’s mask sideways, but he quickly straightens it. Casey says he takes back every good thing he ever said about magic.

With another hard punch, Traveler sends Casey flying into a display room. Casey says that maybe he should put Karai back into the driver’s seat because at least she knows how to throw a punch. Traveler leaps to kick Casey in the face, but he dodges and teases that he touched a nerve. Traveler claims that the rage is an unexpected complication of merging his soul with a human. However, he is sure it will pass when Casey does. Traveler shoves a display case at Casey, who jumps out of the way.

Grabbing a pair of vases, Casey throws them at Traveler’s head. Traveler dodges the first, but the second hits his head. Casey tells him not to kid himself, he’s not going anywhere. First, he’s going to get Traveler out of Karai and then they’re going to reform the Foot Clan. Traveler sees Karai’s image reflected in a display case. She demands that he return control of her body, but Traveler says no.

Casey thinks Traveler said no to him, so he says he can argue all he wants, but he’s beaten scarier ghosts than him. He punches Traveler’s face, pushing him back. Karai appears again and grabs Traveler by the throat, bringing him to his knees. Traveler struggles as Karai demands return of her body control now. Casey steps back, confused. He watches as Traveler’s mouth widens and then Karai forces her way out. Lifting his mask, he moves to give Karai a hand up, asking if that is her. She waves him back and says yes, so he asks what happened.

Karai stands slowly, saying this was part of the price for learning magic as quickly and completely as she did. Casey says he’d get a refund if he was her and they don’t want that happening again. Karai tells him it’s no longer his concern. Casey says he’s trying to help her. Karai replies that she knows, that he is an honorable man, but his time with the Foot Clan has come to an end. She tells him to gather his things and use the teleportal to return to New York. She will inform the others that he has left.

An incredulous Casey asks if that’s it, if she’s just going to kick him to the curb after all he did. Karai tells him that his heart is not dark enough for the path they must walk. Casey argues that they were doing good things and Karai says that is why she is allowing him to leave in peace. She warns him that if he ever stands against her as an enemy, nostalgia will not save him. Casey starts to argue more, but changes his mind and marches out of the room.

Karai then stares into the glass display case, seeing Traveler on her shoulders. She demands to know how he could dare presume to take control of her body. Traveler responds that they are one and it is his body, too. He told her that there would be a price to pay for his aid. Karai says that she will pay, but to know this, he has done his work well. Her knowledge of magic is complete. If he tries to usurp control again… if he does anything to displease her… she will destroy him. Traveler replies that to destroy him means destroying herself and she would never. As Karai walks out of the room, she tells Traveler that as he said, they are one. He should look deep into the soul they share and tell her if he really doesn’t think she has the will.

New York City. A bright light stretches across an alley and Casey steps through a portal. Talking out loud to himself, he says so much for his big life abroad. It looks like he’s zero for two on reforming bad guys. Casey holds his hockey mask, looking down at it and decides that means it’s time he goes back to kicking their butts. He rubs the hockey mask against a wall, scraping off the Foot Clan symbol painted between the mask’s eye holes. Then he dons the mask and announces that Casey Jones is back in town.
