>On the road again...<

April O'Neil "It's funny."

April "Doesn't it feel like we should be on vacation or something?"

Casey Jones "Uh. I guess."

Page 2[]

April "We can do this, right?"

Casey "Track down evidence of warring immortal creatures who disappeared ages ago?"

Casey "Yeah, I think we can handle it."

April "It feels different. With just us."

Casey "We'll be fine."

April "Aren't there studies on couples that work together...?"

Casey "Couples."

April "What?"

Casey " "Couples." Sounds like "old couples." "

April "Oh."

Casey "You want me to take a turn driving?"

April "Sure."

Page 3[]

Casey "What does the Pantheon have to do with the desert?"

April "There's text in the scroll referring to a bridge, which the professor thought referred to the Beringia, which was a route between Asia and Northwestern America 20,000 years ago."

April "Plus, I was taking a closer look and I noticed this."

Casey "What about it?"

April "I think they're Yucca brevifolia. Joshua trees."

April "Which means the Mojave Desert."

Casey "Cactus."

April "Well. Yucca."

Casey "Isn't this whole chunk of California supposed to fall into the ocean? Eventually?"

April "You mean the San Andreas Fault?"

April "Um. That's not exactly here."

April "Actually it's more like eventually San Francisco and Los Angeles will be neighbors."

April "Just a little piece of geographical 411 for you. Uh. Anyway."

Casey "I could eat whenever."

Page 4[]

April "I remember when I was a kid my parents took me to the Grand Canyon."

April "Every night I would go stand outside and look at the stars."

April "I had this notebook..."

"...I kept all my constellation charts in it."

April "My dad would correct them over breakfast."

Casey "Huh."

April "Hey, if you're going to draw Orion's Belt, you might as well get it right."

Casey "Good family times. Did I ever t—"

Casey "Crap!"

Casey "Man."

Casey "This place is nuts."

Page 5[]

"First time I saw a star..."

"...I was like, 12, maybe. I was hiding out on the roof to get away from the old man. And this one night I looked up and I saw... You know, stars."

"But they were moving."

Casey "Turns out they were planes. I just never noticed, you know, the sky before."

April "Aw! That's so sweet."

Casey "Yeah, sure, sweet."

April "Do you ever wonder what it would be like if we'd known each other as little kids?"

Casey "Me and you as kids is like New York and California."

April "Different worlds."

Page 6[]

"Different planets."

Manager "Lunch?"

April "Yes. Uh. Please."

Manager "Well then. Take a seat already."

Waitress "You guys want coffee?"

April & Casey "Yes."

Page 7[]

April "No word from the guys. Maybe no news is good news?"

Casey "Is it?"

Casey "Doesn't feel like that's ever true."

April "Yeah, I guess not."

Page 8[]

Waitress "You guys from New York or something?"

April "Ha. Yeah. Is it obvious?"

Waitress "You don't look like you're from here."

Waitress "You like living in New York?"

April "Sure. I mean, it's super pretty here, though."

Waitress "That's nice of you. This place is a hole."

Jed "Hey! You think we could get a little service?"

Jed "I don't mean to interrupt."

Man B "City punks."

Waitress "Don't start anything."

Waitress "Jed."

Jed "Hey, I'm just trying to ask a boy here about a song."

Jed "You know that song, boy?"

Casey "Maybe you can hum a few bars."

Jed "Yeah, come over here and I'll whistle it."

Waitress "I'm callin' the sheriff."

April "No! Please! We're leaving."

April "Casey!"

Jed "Hey."

Jed "You think you can just walk in here and start something and ride off?"

Manager "Jed! I'm about to call your wife. Don't make me get her out of bed."

April "Casey!"

Page 12[]

Casey "What?!"

April "What?"

Casey "You're mad?"

April "Oh, because I'm supposed to be thrilled that you almost got yourself thrown in jail over nothing?"

Casey "That guy was a bully! I'm supposed to sit there and just take it because I don't want my girlfriend to get upset?"

April "No! Of course not! You're supposed to get in a fight with him! Because we're out in the middle of nowhere hunting bullies!"

Casey "Don't worry about what I'm supposed to be out here doing."

April "We!"

Casey "What?"

April "What we are supposed to be doing out here?"

Casey "You know that's what I meant!"

April "No, I don't."

Casey "Sorry I'm not great with words. I don't have an encyclopedia of science in my brain."

April "I'm pulling over. We need gas."

Page 13[]

GAS

April "I just got a shred of a signal. There's an armory."

April "It looks like it might correspond to a spot that's marked on the scroll."

Casey "Fine."

Casey "Act like you've never seen me get in a fight."

April "You know wha—"

CRACK!

April "What was that?"

Page 14[]

Old Man "Well, look at that."

April "Are you okay?"

Old Man "Oh, it'll take more than that to stop my clock, young lady."

Old Man "This old truck, though..."

Casey "It's mostly the front bumper. But it's going to take some work to unwedge it from the wheel."

April "I'm so sorry!"

Old Man "No troubles. Ted at the shop will fix me up when he gets back."

Old Man "I was supposed to stop in at my sister's, though. She's feeling poorly."

Old Man "She'll be worried if I don't show."

April "Does she have a phone? Can we call her?"

Old Man "Red hasn't had a phone in decades."

April "Ha. Decades. Well I could drive over and let her know what happened."

Casey "Could you excuse us just a minute?"

Old Man "Don't mind me. I'm just an old man in the desert. Heh."

Page 15[]

Casey "I thought you wanted to go check out an old store or something."

April "Yeah, well, clearly we've hit a bit of a snag in that plan."

Casey "It's not safe for you to go alone."

Casey "April."

April "I can handle myself too, Casey."

April "About how far is it to your sister's?"

Old Man "Shouldn't take you more than an hour."

Old Man "You're welcome to use that bike if there's other things you need to be getting to."

Old Man "It's mine."

Old Man "Old but it still works. The guys just put gas in it yesterday."

Page 16[]

April "I'll meet back here. Text me if you find anything."

Casey "Yeah."

Casey "April."

April "What?"

Casey "Just be careful."

April "I know."

April "Back in a bit!"

Old Man "Thank you kindly!"

April "Thank you for not suing us for hitting your truck."

Page 17[]

Old Man "Bye, kids!"

Old Man "Young love."

Rat King (Old Man) "Such a curious affliction."

Rat King "These humans really are such strange creatures."

Rat King "But amusing, yes?"

Rat King "I think..."
