Some TMNT stuff really isn't for little kids. |
Bonnie was a human-born mutant frog and a member of the Punk Frogs who was badly injured and taken in by mutant reconstructive surgeon Jasper Barlow. As Venus, she is a patchwork mutant with a mainly turtle-like appearance, whose current form was created by Dr. Barlow. She was introduced at the end of issue 127 of the IDW ongoing series.
History[]
Bonnie was a member of the Punk Frogs who was taken by Dr. Barlow and reconstructed partially into a ersatz mutant turtle under commission from Madame Null. Barlow deemed the "Venus" project a failure and then used her for experimentation. On a few occasions, she had escaped, and Clyde had mistaken her for a "weird-shelled" turtle who had captured Bonnie.
When Donatello literally dropped into his clinic, Barlow told him that he could do some work on his carapace, alluding to similar work he was already in the midst of. When Don returned to his clinic to ask questions about it, he introduced him to a limbless Venus. TMNT #127
After Donatello saw one of Venus' original limbs from when she was Bonnie, he realized what the doctor had done. Venus telepathically reached out to Don and filled him in on more of the details. Jasper knocked out Don with a syringe and when he came to, he saw Alopex and Sheena strapped up next to him. As Barlow began experimenting on Don, Venus telepathically helped him move past the pain, ascending with him to the Astral Plane. TMNT #128 Donatello reached out for help through his astral form, finding it in Oroku Saki. Saki alerted his family, who came to save him and the other mutants in Barlow's clutches and destroyed his clinic in the process. After Clyde managed to make his way to the site, both he and Donatello asked Venus to come with them, with Clyde unwittingly taking one arm off in the process. Venus decided to go with neither of them, remembering nothing of her past life with Clyde and turning down Don's offer knowing they'd meet again. She was eventually found by Bludgeon, who had sensed her powerful aura and wanted to help. TMNT #130
Venus stayed with Bludgeon for some time afterwards, kept in hiding while they continued to work her meditation and healing together. One one occasion, reminiscing about her fleeting human memories caused her to regrow her missing arm and to reconnect with Donatello on the Astral Plane during her meditation. TMNT #133 Don later asked Venus for her help with the problems in Mutant Town during another moment of connection, but she refused. TMNT #134
Venus continued to feel a pull towards Donatello, and was sucked into a portal he had inadvertently opened to a possible future with Bludgeon just as they had been discovered by Koya. There they saw future versions of themselves and a clan they were part of, moments before Armaggon arrived to consume them all. Venus tried to save her future self, who used her mystical abilities to restore her memories of her past and passed on her own knowledge before being consumed. Venus also became physically whole in the process, fully a turtle and resembling her future self. Don came to her rescue, and in that moment Venus realized how their connection had been formed through Barlow's grafting of his carapace onto her body. Don opened a portal back to the present and left, knowing that they knew how to find each other. He later helped her and Bludgeon to find a place to start their own ninja clan in the Eastfall Arboretum on Roosevelt Island. Oroku Karai and Koya visited them in the Arboretum to ask for an alliance to win the Armageddon Game, but both Venus and Bludgeon refused, sensing Karai's inner darkness and wanting peace.
