We spent the past two years hoping for a happier ending with Karai. Since then, I've become far more worried about the entire rest of the series. And now, a happy Karai ending will be meaningless if the entire show around it (and the family she's returning home to) have no soul.
I mean, one of the things that made Karai most interesting was not just her relation with Splinter or her humorous sexual tension with Leo, but also the way she evenly matched Raph for sheer cattitude. And you can't just make Raph cat whenever you want like some trained poodle—you knew it came from a deep seasoned developed character with a conspicuously queer-tinted outlook and a bitchy streak a mile long. So when Raph made a cutting remark, you knew the depths of divatude it came from, and it was glorious.
Now that infinitely fascinating side of Raph's personality has been completely whitewashed from the story in favor of a bland one-dimensional caricature of an angry hothead with, at best, an informed phoned-in motivation. Who will try to outcat Karai now? And who will be there for Karai to outcat? Let's worry less about their missing sister Karai—she'll almost certainly be coming back by the end of this season. Instead, let's worry more about their missing sister Raphael, without whom Karai's homecoming will never feel complete.
In memoriam, here are some fond memories of Raph and Karai's good times.
Don't you just want to put them on a greeting card? :)
