During an excursion above the sewers, Splinter is injected with a miniaturized device designed by Baxter Stockman. As his sensei grows weaker, Donatello investigates and discovers Splinter is being attacked from the inside by microscopic mousers! Initial attempts to combat this infection fail, so Donatello makes the only rational decision: to shrink himself and the other Turtles down and fight the micro-mousers head on! Synopsis[]
Michelangelo carries an unconscious Splinter into the lair and beseeches for help. He explains that Splinter had asked him to help him run errands, and heard some beeping, tracing it to a panel on the wall that should not have been there. When he tried to pry the panel off, it sprayed Splinter with some gas. Mike brings the panel to Donatello, who determines that it was created by Baxter Stockman. He also takes a sample and finds Micro Mousers, deducing that they are now inside Master Splinter and causing havoc.
The Turtles call in April to watch over Splinter while they use Don's shrink ray and the Turtle Capsule to enter Master Splinter and fight off the Micro Mousers. Upon entering Splinter's body, they are attacked by his white blood cells, which take the shape of mutant rats and know ninjutsu. They fight them off long enough to get to Splinter's brain, where there is a nanofabrication unit that is using Splinter's brain material as a power source to produce more micro mousers. Don attempts to shut down the machine while the white blood cells and Micro Mousers are distracted fighting each other, but it's taking too long. Leonardo also fails to cut into it with his katana. As a last-ditch effort, Don reprograms the machine to produce four TMNT-themed Mouser robots, which destroy the machine.
The Turtles take off in the Turtle Capsule, but they are penetrated by a couple of white blood cells, apparently having already finished off the Micro Mousers. They latch on to Mikey and he begs for them to not let him go. Don radios April to utilize a feather to make Splinter sneeze them out. Later, after Splinter has recovered and the Turtle Capsule was re-enlarged, Splinter thanks them but wonders where Mike is. It turns out he was pulled too far out of the range of the ray by the white blood cells and although he, too, exited Splinter's nose, he was not re-enlarged. Before Don utilized the ray on him, though, Mike wanted to enjoy being at that size - namely, to eat a pizza many times his size.
Notes and trivia[]
- Although the basic plot is common throughout fiction, the setup is very close to the events of Micro-Turtles no Bōken, including an encounter with Splinter's white blood cell. Stockman being responsible for the nanobots, as well as Turtle-themed robots fighting them off, also recalls April's peril in volumes 2 and 4 of Eastman and Laird's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.
- The credits page has an artwork in the background that pays tribute to the iconic image in the poster and VHS cover for the 1989 film Honey, I Shrunk the Kids.
- In page 1, a poster for the fictitious movie "Arrest Ace Duck!" enlist credits for Jim Lawson, Ryan Brown, and Stephen Murphy.
