Mystic-Ring

A certain bauble and ring belonging to Big Mama are a recurring set of mystical jewelry appearing in Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The bauble was a brace which, once worn, turned a person into the mindless slave of whomever wore a special ring.

The jewelry set first factors into the plot of the episode "Many Unhappy Returns", when Splinter and Leonardo sought Big Mama's help in stopping the recently semi-awakened Shredder's rampage in New York City. As part of a deal brokered between Leo and Big Mama where Splinter would fight the Kraken and the Evil Six in the Battle Nexus arena, Big Mama promised them her bauble if they won. Big Mama tried to modify the deal at the last second and forced Leo to fighting alongside Splinter in the arena, but Leo already anticipated this and outfoxed Big Mama with his own secret plan to sneak his ōdachi into the arena to defeat the Evil Six, and used the Evil Six's spiked helmets to defeat the Kraken. Big Mama honored the deal and gave Splinter and Leo her bauble while keeping the ring for herself. Later, the Mad Dogs were successful in a cunning effort to force the bauble around the Shredder's neck. Big Mama collected the now-enslaved Shredder and took him away to be confined. But instead of sealing the Shredder away, Big Mama disguised him and had him fight as her new Battle Nexus champion with the stage name of Shadow Fiend.

In the episode "Battle Nexus: New York", Big Mama abducted everyone living in New York City and turned the city into her new Battle Nexus venue, and forced the Mad Dogs, Ghostbear, Hypno-Potamus, Meat Sweats and Carl Sando to fight against some of her own challengers for the entertainment of her Yōkai viewers. But when these challengers' combined efforts won most of the battles, Big Mama was annoyed and refused to free them or the New Yorkers as promised, and summoned her Shadow Fiend as a last-ditch effort to defeat the Mad Dogs and their remaining allies. But the Foot Recruit sensed a familiar power in Shadow Fiend, and realized he was actually the Shredder under enslavement. The allies were unable to subdue the Shredder directly, but the Foot Recruit stealthfully pilfered the ring from Big Mama's finger, and used it to make the Shredder completely collapse the Grand Nexus Hotel.

In the episode "E-Turtle Sunshine of the Spotless Mind", the Foot Clan had successfully taken the Shredder and the ring back to their cavern beneath the Foot Shack, but they didn't know how to free the Shredder from the ring's control. Later in the episode, the separate efforts of the Hamato Clan down in the lair managed to retrieve a legendary weapon to use against the Shredder, but this weapon turned out to be Hamato Karai who had been keeping the Shredder's sentient mind sealed away for 500 years. By retrieving Karai, the Hamato Clan had inadvertently broken an even more important seal that had been binding the Shredder's consciousness even without the bauble and ring. Now fully awakened, the Shredder freed had the power to free himself from the bauble and ring's control.
