In Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Big Mama's assistant is a character who first appeared as a cameo in "The Evil League of Mutants", later making her first full appearance briefly in "Many Unhappy Returns". She is secretly a Mutant turtle and one of the two lost siblings of the Turtles.

Physical appearance[]

Big Mama's assistant seemingly has three fingers on each hand and a lean figure. She wears a long black hooded sleeveless garment with a brown plastron and high collar, dark grey pants, dark grey wraps around her arms with gold metal[1] claws, and black footwear with gold metal toe caps. She also wears a pair of green metal pauldrons on her left shoulder, a black belt with a strap that goes over her left shoulder with an attached pair of pouches and a gold plate in the center, and a white mask with a red design.

History[]

She debuted in "Many Unhappy Returns". Standing beside Big Mama, she presented a picture of the mystic collar that was capable of making the Shredder powerless to Splinter and Leonardo. After the Shredder's defeat by the Mad Dogs, she teleported to New York to use a mystic device that captured the Shredder.

She reappeared in "Raph's Ride-Along" where she took away a box containing a mystic orb from Big Mama after she was ordered to guard it for Big Mama's upcoming Battle Nexus Wizbang.

Trivia[]

  • She was planned to have a larger role in the series and be revealed to be one of the Turtles' two missing siblings, before its abrupt finale.[1][2][3][4]
    • Some of the plans for her were revealed on August 6th, 2022 in a fan-hosted Twitch stream[5] by Rise of the TMNT executive producer Andy Suriano, stating, "You'd probably find out [the identity of Big Mama's assistant] end of season two 'cause that was gonna propel us into season three. 'Cause [indistinct] season three was, like, the quest for the other siblings and then that was gonna set the two, you know, like X-Men Gold and X-Men Blue. Remember that? Dale, were we talking about that before? Where we'd separate it, like, Splinter would go with one group and Draxum would go with another and, like, the Turtles would split apart and they'd each go to different places, you know, different dimensions even to find the different siblings . . . No, it would've been sweet, right? Like, at the end we see, like, maybe Draxum's bodyguard takes off their mask and, you know, reveals a female sibling, and then there was, like, another one 'cause we thought it'd be great to investigate, 'Okay, like, Splinter was able to save four out of six and maybe we just didn't see the other two and, like, what would that be if they were raised by Draxum and Big Mama?' And this would be something Draxum would admit to them at the end of season two."[6]
      • In the same stream, an unknown Rise of the TMNT production crew member asked, "But didn't we also leave that in? In the mutation chambers?" Rise of the TMNT staff writer and script coordinator Dale Malinowski stated, "I think there's a shot in 'Goyles, Goyles, Goyles' where you can see there are actually six chambers for the Turtles." Rise of the TMNT director and story artist JJ Conway stated, "Yeah, I drew that in 'Todd's Lemonade' and there's six pods.[7][8] 'Cause that's something you guys had planned from—was that as early as the actual pitch bible for the show? Like, I remember reading that so [emphasis added] early on." Suriano asked, "Dale, do you remember?" and Malinowski answered, "I don't know if it was in the bible or not, but I do remember having a lot of conversations about that very early on. That was always gonna be a part of the series and I do remember seeing it in... I can't recall if it's 'Goyles, Goyles, Goyles' or if it's even actually in the pilot where I forget if it was [Bryce Collins] who actually did the work—JJ did it, right—of putting six turtles in that genesis event, six baby turtles."
    • It was stated in September 2022 by Rise of the TMNT director and story artist Conway in a Tweet that, "As I recall, the plan was for their sister (Big Mama's assistant) to be an original character, not an adaptation of an existing character (so not Venus or Jennika). I'm sure they could have used Venus or Jennika if they wanted to, but that was not the plan as I recall it."[9]
      • It was stated in July 2023 by Rise of the TMNT staff writer Ron Corcillo in a Tweet that it was planned that she would be named after a female artist instead of an art piece, one of the possible options being naming her after Frida Kahlo.[10][11][12]
    • It was stated in July 2023 by Rise of the TMNT staff writer Corcillo in a Tweet that, "The missing sister was going to be Big Mama's Hench person who we see in a couple of episodes. The turtles would've eventually figured that out through their encounters with big mama."[13]
    • When asked how the family would have retrieved her and the missing brother in July 2023, Rise of the TMNT staff writer Corcillo answered in a Tweet, "We hadn't planned most of that out yet. The turtles would have split up to rescue the two of them, but we hadn't broken down how that would have worked."[14]
    • It was stated in July 2023 by Rise of the TMNT staff writer Corcillo in a Tweet that, "The turtles would have to win 'Venus' . . . back from Big Mama by helping her see that she had been brainwashed as a child."[12]
    • It was stated in July 2023 by Rise of the TMNT staff writer Corcillo in a Tweet that, "I think the sister who we see as Big Mama's Hench person would have been a very disciplined super serious ninja, so serious that she's actually funny. I think the other sibling might have been a little kooky from being trapped in another dimension for years."[15]
    • It was stated in February 2024 by Rise of the TMNT staff writer Corcillo in a Tweet that, "[Big Mama's assistant and the older/oldest brother] would be roughly the same age as the turtles, so, also teenagers."[16]
  • Her gender was revealed to be female on August 18th, 2020 by Rise of the TMNT character designer Collins in a now-edited Instagram post.[1]
