Baron Draxum's laboratory is a recurring location in Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Description[]

The laboratory of Baron Draxum is located in the northern Hidden City near Devil's Backbone, between Big Mama's auction house and the Hirsuté Resort & Spa.

The laboratory is where Draxum conducted his alchemy research to find a way to protect the Yōkai from the human threat, including ooze and Oozesquitoes. It was also the home of Draxum and his gargoyle servants, Huginn and Muninn.

History[]

It is currently unknown when, how, or by whom Draxum's laboratory was first built, but 13 years prior to the start of the series, Draxum used his laboratory to engineer his own ooze to mutate others and had been keeping various experimental subjects in it. Draxum eventually hired Huginn and Muninn as his henchmen and tasked them to transport Lou Jitsu from the Battle Nexus to his laboratory so he could use him in his experiment. Lou Jitsu initially agreed to partake in the experiment, but he reneged his cooperation after learning Draxum planned to mutate the ordinary turtles he possessed. A fight between Draxum and Lou Jitsu in the laboratory then ensued and Huginn and Muninn attempted to aid Draxum by releasing his war unicorn from its cage, but it instead kicked them into the laboratory's main machine. The machine's destabilization lead to it exploding, setting the laboratory ablaze, and allowing Lou Jitsu the chance to free all of Draxum's subjects. His laboratory was obliterated along with all of his scientific work. Huginn and Muninn did not confess to Draxum that it was them who accidentally destroyed it, blaming Lou Jitsu instead.

Draxum's laboratory appeared in Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics. In issue 1, Harvey Hokum followed Huginn and Muninn to the Hidden City and into Draxum's laboratory where he was promptly mutated by an Oozesquito. In The Reunion Special!, Draxum observed the titular special from his laboratory.

Draxum's laboratory was first depicted in "Mystic Mayhem", Draxum having had restored his work and laboratory as planned. Agent 64 was taken the laboratory by the Guardsmen and imprisoned there along with Stewart who had accidentally fallen into a mystic portal to the Hidden City. The Turtles landed near Draxum's laboratory after traveling through the portal themselves to rescue April O'Neil and after breaking inside, fought Draxum with the mystic weapons they stole from his laboratory's armory. Michelangelo's kusari-fundō accidentally destabilized the main machine as he tried to wield it, causing it and the rest of the laboratory to explode.

Draxum returned to his reconstructed laboratory after breaking into the Grand Nexus Hotel in "Bug Busters" where he came to the conclusion he was to devise a scheme to stop the Turtles' sabotage of his plans.

Following "Many Unhappy Returns", Draxum became a wanted fugitive in the Hidden City and thus could no longer live or work in his laboratory. Forced into a new life above ground among humans, he moved into a New York City apartment and found a job as a cook in Washington Irving High School's Autry Cafeteria.

Draxum brought the Foot Clan and Splinter to his laboratory in "Finale Part 3: Anatawa Hitorijanai" after being held captive by the Foot to give the Shredder his alleged store of Empyrean. Draxum attempted to confront the Shredder using a golem only to be defeated and for the Shredder to inflict more damage to his laboratory. The ceiling of Draxum's laboratory collapsed and large rubble fragments pinned Foot Lieutenant and Foot Brute beneath them, but they were left to free themselves by the rest of the Foot who left with Draxum and Splinter for the Crying Titan.
