In Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Rizzoli), Barney Thompson is a news editor and the president of Canale 6. This version of Thompson is closely based on Burne Thompson from the 1987 TV series.

Though Barney Thompson does not appear until the sixth comic in the Rizzoli series, he is mentioned before that. In Arriva Shredder, April O'Neil rushes to a phone booth to call her boss with information regarding Ninja del clan del piede, but is kidnapped by them before finishing her conversation.
In Diffidate dalle imitazioni, April is driving around the city hoping to find something newsworthy when Thompson calls her on the van's radio. He tells her to rush to the intersection of Seventh and Norton Avenue. April asks what’s happening and Barney tells her that two of those Turtle guys are rampaging and the police can’t stop them.
Thompson makes his actual debut in Abbiamo l'esclusiva! when a con man named Malloy convinces him that he is the Turtles' exclusive agent. Malloy tricks Thompson into giving him a check for twenty thousand dollars as a deposit, on the promise that the 'agent' will deliver the Turtles for an exclusive interview.
