In the IDW continuity, Area 51 is a highly restricted base of the Earth Protection Force in rural southern Nevada. It first appears during a flashback sequence in Battle Lines, part 2. Area 51 is surrounded by high fences and heavily guarded. Above ground are numerous hangars, some housing vehicles and others armaments. Below ground is an operation center, laboratories, and an enormous server room.

As Raphael and Pepperoni head towards Las Vegas, they are ambushed by Metalhead. After Metalhead takes Pepperoni hostage, he tells Raph that he'll be serving as a diversion to keep the Earth Protection Force’s security personnel occupied at Area 51.
