April O'Neil is a member of the Mad Dogs and the Hamato Clan.

Appearance[]

April is a slim, brown-skinned African-American teenager (later young woman in the film) with black eyes, black and red lips and curly burgundy-brown hair with bangs, kept in pigtail buns with yellow hair ties.

Her attire consists a simple black choker around her neck, a pair of red cat-eyed framed glasses with pale yellow lenses, and a long yellow T-shirt under a cropped, green varsity jacket which features ¾ sleeves, a button closure (typically found on the right side), followed by light green trim and a '5' print over its heart and back. April also dawned a set of navy-black capri leggings and yellow high-top sneakers.

Personality[]

April is upbeat, quick-witted, and adventurous. She tends to be a more go-with-the-flow type spirit in the way that she is adaptable and often matches her energy with those around her.

April is shown to be incredibly brave as seen in "The Gumbus" when she enjoys the fiasco in the Stock & Shop while Michelangelo and Leonardo are terrified. She is quick to jump into action. However, while she doesn't like waiting around, April isn't known to be detrimentally impulsive.

April has a selfless and heroic streak, such as in "Warren & Hypno, Sitting in a Tree" when she frees Warren Stone from a mystic gauntlet Baron Draxum is trying to collect to ensure he and Hypno-Potamus could remain together. April also has a forgiving nature, befriending and learning to care for Draxum despite all he has done even before most of the Turtles. Although she can be rude at times, like in "The Fast and the Furriest" when Donatello accuses her of stealing the Turtle Tank and, being annoyed by him and his brothers breaking in and being accused of something she didn't do, kicks the Turtles out via her window.

Despite all these traits, April has insecurities as seen when she is trying to sell cookies, but is unable to get customers due to her passive-aggressive approach in "Always Be Brownies". She can be discouraged by repeated failures, but her capacity to self-motivate allows her pick herself up. Even so, April isn't too shy or proud to ask for and accept support from others and regularly leans on those she trusts.

April has an environmentalist side, raising funds for tree conservation in "Always Be Brownies" and working to halt the production and use of a hypertoxic herbicide in Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Movie.

April tends to be more responsible compared to the rest of the Mad Dogs, taking accountability for her actions and trying to heal harm she may have caused more often than them, but is still plenty immature.

History[]

Years prior to the start of the series, April encountered Splinter and the Turtles. She befriended and eventually forged a close familial bond with the five of them.

April debuted in “Mystic Mayhem”. She helped the Turtles organize a group cannonball into a rooftop pool by giving them access to the roof. She followed Raphael after he noticed a small animal and wanted to help it. It took a liking to April, but she and the Turtles were confronted by a pair of men carrying pet dogs. April refused to give them the animal they had found and the men, along with their dogs, then transformed into their Yōkai forms. After the Yōkai injured all of the Turtles and destroyed their weapons, they stole the small animal from April, but she chased after them, teleporting elsewhere. She ended up in front of Baron Draxum's laboratory by the time the Turtles returned for her and they together trespassed into the laboratory to save the small animal. April witnessed Draxum mutate a human using Oozesquitoes and introduced the Turtles to the laboratory's armory to prepare them to fight Draxum and his henchmen. She and the Turtles then confronted Draxum, demanding the small animal's freedom, but when the Turtles hesitated to act, she attacked and began to fight with Huginn and Muninn. After overpowering Huginn and Muninn, Draxum bound her in plant matter, including the Turtles. Michelangelo had accidentally caused the main machine in the laboratory to become unstable and it exploded. However, April and the Turtles were saved by the small animal teleporting them out of the laboratory and they used the mystic device the Turtles had stolen from Splinter to teleport back to New York City. April named the small animal “Mayhem” and ran home with her fellow Mad Dogs after accidentally allowing a swarm of Draxum's Oozesquitoes escape into New York.

April reappeared in “Origami Tsunami”. She was invited by the Turtles at the newly built Leo's Paper Hut for a job interview. Mikey put her up to being a customer service representative as part of their scheme once the Foot Clan entered to steal their paper reams, but April was merely tied up, the Turtles’ plan failing.

April tried to host Timmy’s birthday party as her position as party captain at Albearto's in "War and Pizza". When Timmy was bored from the animatronics’ performances, he broke Albearto by throwing soda at him. April then recruited Donnie to help her repair him. When April had Albearto and his band perform for the patrons again after Donnie's upgrades, Albearto malfunctioned, but this time, he gained sentience and attacked the humans around him. April and the Turtles then worked together to defeat Albearto and the other animatronics he gave sentience to. She delivered the final blow to Albearto after the Turtles distracted him by singing him “Happy Birthday”. April was then fired from Albearto's after the restaurant collapsed.

April's apartment was broken into by the Turtles in “The Fast and the Furriest”, to her displeasure. After being falsely accused of being the culprit of Donnie's stolen Turtle Tank, she forced the Turtles out of her apartment with a baseball bat.

In “Hypno! Part Deux”, April attended her high school's homecoming dance, eager to socialize with Taylor Martin as she had invited April to sit at her table. April left the gymnasium after she was barred from downloading the mobile app Hippo Crush like Taylor suggested due to Donnie's blocker on her smartphone. She followed her classmates to the school auditorium. Hypno performed on stage, vowing to make the high school disappear. April realized that her classmates were hypnotized by Hippo Crush and fled the auditorium. She was chased by Taylor and two other classmates before being entirely surrounded by the other students. She was rescued by the appearance of Raph and Leo who broke into the school using Taylor's homecoming float. April chose to work with Mayhem to gather all of the magical top hats that Hypno dispersed in the school to make it disappear while the Turtles battled Hypno. After collecting them all, Mayhem teleported the hats and Hypno away from the school, sparing it from his vanishing spell and breaking the hypnotism on her classmates.

April joined Leo and a reluctant Mikey in “The Gumbus” on a trip to the Stock & Shop after Mikey told them about the alleged Gumbus ghost haunting the store. She broke into the Stock & Shop after its active hours with the Turtles to wander the aisles and came upon Baxter Stockboy. April ran from the Gumbus with the Turtles after it suddenly appeared to abduct Baxter. Baxter’s soul, now forced into a frozen turkey, ordered April and the Turtles to make the Lady Liberty food can stack Baxter invented to rescue him. April held the Gumbus off with Leo so Mikey could build the Lady Liberty Stack. April was later separated from the Turtles by the Gumbus before reappearing to attack the Gumbus with a makeshift bow and arrow to protect the Turtles. The Gumbus then fell and was revealed to be a robot manned by Baxter instead of a ghost. Disappointed, April and the Turtles left the Stock & Shop.

April kept her job as an actress in Mrs. Cuddles’ TV series a secret from Raph in “Mrs. Cuddles” to prank him, aware of his fear of Mrs. Cuddles. She helped the Turtles use her actual puppet to frighten Raph later in the kitchen. When Raph called for his family to come to the kitchen with the claim that Mrs. Cuddles is real, April and the Turtles disbelieved him. She helped search for Mrs. Cuddles when Raph told her she was missing and was scared by her in the kitchen, her scream causing her to grow in size. April was then bound and placed in Splinter’s bedroom by Mrs. Cuddles.

April recruited Donnie’s help at her high school in “The Purple Jacket” with her computer science project’s code. Donnie became infatuated with the Purple Dragons Tech Club and their exclusive club jackets. April's warnings about the mean natures of the Purple Dragons were ignored and Donnie was quickly made a member after showing off his own inventions. April called Donnie later that night to prompt him to watch the news report on a series of electronic store robberies occurring at the same time. April met up with him to investigate as Donnie’s inventions had been stolen and together they deduced that the Purple Dragons were aiming to rob the Nakamura Corporation. April broke into the Nakamura Corporation building and chased after the Purple Dragons right after they finished downloading Nakamura’s main server source code. April and Donnie stopped Jason and Jeremy and put on the Rocket Shell to fly after Kendra. After a battle, April crashed into an alley and Kendra took control of Donnie’s Spider Shell and made it attack him. April subdued the Spider Shell while Donnie defeated Kendra by sabotaging the rotors of the Flight Shell she wore. April then returned to the lair with Donnie’s reclaimed inventions.

A photograph of April from “The Fast and the Furriest” was shown on Donnie’s bedroom wall along with his other photographs of his family in "Mind Meld".

In “Shadow of Evil”, April lounged at the lair before her shift at her new job the Foot Shack. She told Splinter not to visit the Foot Shack, but found him later pretending to shop, to her annoyance. She disbelieved Splinter's claim that her employers Foot Lieutenant and Foot Brute were part of the Foot. She dragged him from the store and followed him when he climbed the store's roof. Fearful of being fired, she followed Splinter through the rooftop window into a secret room. Other Foot members gathered there to be told the plan for the mission that would take place that night by Foot Lieutenant and Foot Brute. For the first time, April was told the story of Splinter’s clan and the villainous Foot and she resolved herself to stop them. The Foot left to complete their mission to find a piece of the Kuroi Yōroi with Splinter in toe. Despite Splinter’s orders to not join him, she followed the Foot Shack van on her bicycle. Donning her own Foot Soldier uniform, she distracted the Foot by misleading them to the location of the Kuroi Yōroi piece while Splinter took the real piece. April ran from the train station with the piece to protect it from the Foot. On a subway train, April was confronted by Draxum who tied her in his mystic vines to take the piece from her. She was brought back to the train station where Splinter pretended to want to kill her to give himself an opportunity to attack Draxum. He injured his back mid-way through the attack and his identity as Lou Jitsu was accidentally revealed to the Foot and the Turtles. April then worked with the Turtles to fight the Foot and reclaim the Kuroi Yōroi shard, but she and the family retreated empty-handed on Raph's order when Foot Lieutenant created numerous Origami Ninja.

April dined at Run of the Mill Pizza with Donnie and Leo in “Operation: Normal” and was repelled by the Super Creepy Supreme pizza they ordered as well as Exploding Frankie’s slime coating her. She left prematurely, wanting normalcy. During science class, April met a new student named Sunita. She quickly befriended her. While walking home after school, she encountered Donnie and Leo playing in an alley and told them of her plans to hang out with Sunita later. She soon realized that she had been followed by Donnie and Leo to ensure nothing strange happened during their hangout. April's attempt to order Sunita a hot dog was ruined by Foot Brute and Foot Recruit and she left for Bro's Pizza to dine there instead, but quickly left when the Turtles shuffled with the Foot at the restaurant as well. April then took Sunita to the Lazerdome, but partway through their laser tag match, Donnie and Leo appeared fighting the Foot. To get privacy, she agreed to help Donnie and Leo fight off the Foot while trying to keep it all a secret from Sunita. Eventually, she explained the danger to Sunita and April learned she was a Yōkai. Together, April and Sunita defeated Foot Brute and Foot Recruit and April decided to enjoy the peculiarity of her life.

In “Warren and Hypno, Sitting in a Tree”, April celebrated her birthday with the Turtles in the Turtle Tank. April stated that her birthdays have a consistent history of turning out strange. Later, April found her and the Turtles in the middle of a battle between Draxum and Hypno and Warren Stone. Warren found his way inside the Turtle Tank and, in an effort to save Hypno from Draxum, accidentally made the Turtle Tank launch itself far from his and Hypno's apartment. April was sympathetic towards Warren because of her status of being his fan and when Warren explained his motivations to save Hypno, she rallied the rest of the Turtles' support. She worked with Warren and the Turtles to set up a trade of Charlotte for Hypno's freedom. However, Warren betrayed them and surrendered April and the Turtles to Draxum in exchange for Hypno. April was trapped in a cage by Draxum, but when Draxum reneged on his deal with Warren, it was Hypno who tried to get April and the Turtles to help him save Warren. April and the Turtles escaped their cage to stop Draxum from taking Charlotte and April used one of Hypno's Razor Rings to sever Warren's arm. Draxum stole Charlotte and teleported away and April was elated to be gifted Warren's detached arm by the Turtles for her birthday.

April called the Turtles over to her apartment in “Mystic Library” to save Mayhem who had teleported himself into her bathroom mirror to get out of being bathed. She texted the Turtles periodically about Mayhem's decline as his body vanished over time after they agreed to help and left for the New York Public Library. She later called Raph to demand he hurry when only Mayhem's head remained. She was overjoyed when the Turtles returned with the Complete Compendium of Escape Rituals and rescued Mayhem from the mirror. April then tried to bathe him again, resulting in Mayhem teleporting back into the bathroom mirror.

April played The Purple Game at her apartment in “The Purple Game” and was surprised to be playing against Donnie. Donnie's cheating made her lose their fight.

At Bronx Park, April enjoyed a snowy day with Mayhem and the Turtles and helped build a Jupiter Jim snowman with them in “Snow Day”. She had a snowball fight with Mayhem and the Turtles until night fell. Ghostbear, who had recently mutated, attacked them, seeking to destroy something they loved. Although April and her family tried to defend their Jupiter Jim snowman after Mayhem teleported to the lair and retrieved each of their weapons, Ghostbear ultimately destroyed it. In the spirit of Jupiter Jim's Pluto Vacation IV, April worked with the Turtles to retaliate by grabbing Ghostbear's attention and having Mayhem blind him with a flag while the others attacked. With Ghostbear frozen solid, she adorned him with her green scarf.

In “Cloak and Swaggart”, April housesat the lair with Sunita and said her farewells to Splinter and the Turtles as they prepared to leave for survival training. Excited to start their girls’ night, they watched TV together in the lair TV room. Upon April's suggestion, Sunita and her left for the Salt Rock Club to attend a DIGG concert. They had to leave when Sunita's cloaking brooch was stolen from her by an unknown person and April resolved to reclaim it. They traveled to the Brooch District and April learned from Loose Lips Malinowski that the thief went to the Channel 6 building. They snuck into the building and discovered Meat Sweats using Sunita's cloaking brooch to appear human and continue Kondescending Kitchen. By acting like a series contestant, April distracted Meat Sweats by feeding him a risotto with excess hot sauce and took back Sunita's cloaking brooch. They were chased by Meat Sweats and when they were cornered, April expressed her feelings of guilt for the situation. With Sunita's affection for April undiminished, they worked together to lure Meat Sweats onto the set of the series Sunita was watching earlier. They then returned safely to the lair, surprised to find that Splinter and the Turtles never left the lair because Raph had accidentally trapped them in the Turtle Tank. Eager to try out a new button for the Turtle Tank garage, April unintentionally locked Splinter and the Turtles in the Turtle Tank garage. She and Sunita celebrated their second opportunity for girls’ night.

April met Splinter on a mission to spy on the Foot on the Foot Shack roof in “Insane in the Mama Train”. She saw Draxum with Foot Brute and multiple Foot Soldiers disassembling the Kuroi Yōroi to transport it elsewhere for a ceremony. She was left by Splinter when he responded to Raph’s T-emblem panic button sounding. April, undercover as a Foot Soldier, followed the Foot down to Big Mama’s train station. She observed a conversation between Draxum and Big Mama in which Draxum gave Big Mama the Mystic Orb to stop her prying. April tried to leave upon loading her Kuroi Yōroi fragment onto Big Mama’s train, but was not allowed by Foot Lieutenant. She pressed her panic button and accidentally woke up Foot Brute who was asleep in the baggage car. She hid from him on the ceiling and right as she was about to be grabbed by him, the Turtles arrived. April was befuddled by their clothing and serious attitudes, but followed them to complete the mission to take the Kuroi Yōroi from Big Mama's train. In the freezer car, she fought the Guardsmen using blocks of ice with Leo and later Raph and ended up locating the Kuroi Yōroi car near the train’s front. However, she was kidnapped by Draxum and teleported away.

In “End Game” April was found by Splinter who was waiting for three Mad Dogs’ return from their mission and she told him that the Turtles had been taken by the Foot and that they refused to release the Turtles unless Splinter gave them the last Kuroi Yōroi shard. April and Splinter realized that Skully was the last hard and they debated on whether to save humanity or the Turtles. They consulted the Hamato Clan Ancestors from a mystic Hamato Clan scroll and were told that they should allow the Turtles to be murdered by the Foot for Skully's safety. Ignoring this advice, April assembled the B-Team to help rescue the Turtles and left for the Hidden City. Splinter created a plan to retrieve the Turtles from the Shredder’s shrine, but everyone, sans April and Splinter, was captured by traps at the shrine’s entrance. April and Splinter encountered Foot Lieutenant and Foot Brute inside the shrine and Splinter defeated them and the many Origami Ninja. Following Splinter’s victorious fight against Draxum, April was horrified to see Splinter acquiesce to Draxum and give him Skully to protect the Turtles. After Draxum donned the Kuroi Yōroi and damaged the shrine throne room, April was greeted by Mayhem and resolved to tend to Splinter's injuries. After, Mayhem teleported April to the baseball stadium press box in her Foot Soldier disguise and told the Turtles, who were fighting Draxum on the baseball field, that Foot Lieutenant and Foot Brute mentioned the Kuroi Yōroi having a flaw. She was discovered by Foot Brute, but Mayhem teleported himself and Splinter into the press box to save her. April was then teleported by Mayhem onto the baseball field where she eventually drove a baseball with a baseball bat into the back of the Kuroi Yōroi’s helmet where the flaw was located. The Mad Dogs celebrated their perceived victory, however, it only fixed the Kuroi Yōroi instead of damaging it, and the Shredder resurrected.

April, Splinter, the Turtles, and the Foot were quickly attacked by the Shredder in “Many Unhappy Returns”, but he suddenly disappeared amid his assault. She left the baseball stadium with the family and after hearing reports of the Shredder manifesting inside of Albearto's traveled there. The fight against the Shredder ended the same way as earlier and April followed the Shredder to the Museum of Art and Framing. With their current tactics failing to work, Leo and a reluctant Splinter left for the Grand Nexus Hotel to seek Big Mama's help while April and the remaining Turtles continued to fight the Shredder wherever he manifested in New York. April used a crane to throw shipping containers the Shredder at a shipyard, but it proved somewhat ineffective. She later saved Donnie from being attacked by the Shredder by throwing another shipping container at the Shredder before he vanished once more. Donnie's tech-gauntlet allowed him to predict the location of the Shredder's next manifestation and April traveled there and was met by Leo and Splinter who teleported there with the Mystic Collar in hand. They managed to put the Mystic Collar on the Shredder, incapacitating him. She then returned to the lair with the family to rest.

In “Lair Games”, April recorded the sixth annual Lair Olympics with S.H.E.L.L.D.O.N.. She interviewed Leo during his confessional about the fifteenth event, Fridge Balance, and the injury sustained by Donnie in said event.

April invited Raph to her apartment to fix her ceiling fan that fell due to her upstairs neighbor's jumping in “Repairin’ the Baron”. She followed Raph when he decided to confront the neighbor about the racket and was shocked to see Draxum and Mikey. Once Donnie, Leo, and Splinter arrived at Draxum's apartment she ate dinner with Draxum and the family, as unenthused as everyone else, sans Mikey. When Draxum was employed by April's high school as its cafeteria worker, she was apprehensive about the development.

With the news of Leo's new job as the Daves mascot, April attended one of the team's basketball games to support Leo in "Air Turtle". She joined the Knights during halftime once Tim Dunkman used the Arch of Aquinnah to turn the Daves into demons to win the game. She was able to help the Knights win 90-120 until Tim joined the game and the Knights began to lose, but achieved victory by the end with 122-121. The game's end saved the Daves by dissolving the Arch of Aquinnah's spell.

April sulked in the lair in “Always Be Brownies” about her failure to sell cookies for the cause of tree conservation in front of the Stock & Shop and her multiple failures to start up high school clubs when Splinter offered his help. She watched a Lou Jitsu video that motivated her to try to sell her cookies again, this time with Splinter's assistance. They returned to her stand where her competition, Grandma CJ's Brownies, remained. April tried to employ Splinter's advice on how to promote her cookies, but only frightened away potential customers. Splinter taking over promotion earned them 135 dollars for tree conservation, but it saddened April as she wasn't able to convince anyone to purchase her cookies herself. April and Splinter were then abducted by the Grandma CJ girl scouts because they took away customers' interest in their brownies. They were taken to Grandma CJ Scouts HQ and separated with April being held in a room where Julia and CJ Girl tried to recruit her to join the Brownie Clan. She used the walnut from a cookie to tear her restraints. She then threw the walnut at a ventilation duct to make it fall from the ceiling and crash into Julia. Julia then deployed more Brownie Clan members to attack April and she defeated them all, including Julia eventually. April tied all of the Brownie Clan members' hair together into French braids and left the room through a ventilation duct to find Splinter. April discovered that Splinter was bound as she was and that Grandma CJ was Foot Recruit. April reluctantly agreed to give Foot Recruit the 135 dollars she earned in exchange for Splinter’s freedom. Although initially sad about her perceived incompetence, she cheered herself up after recounting all of her feats at the Grandma CJ Scouts HQ.

April warned Draxum of an impending visit from lunchroom superintendent Vivian Slopworth, worried about his filthy kitchen in “Mystery Meat”. She called Mikey for help and worked with mutant silverfish to clean the kitchen before Vivian's arrival while Draxum greeted her. She managed to clean it in time, but a secret Oozesquito in Draxum's possession escaped and she had to keep Vivian from noticing it. When she hid it in a pot of sloppy joe, the Oozesquito injected its ooze into it and created Sloppy Joseph. Sloppy Joseph soon escaped and April followed him around her school. Mikey arrived and he helped her chase Sloppy Joseph, but due to the immense size he gained from eating food around the school, they couldn’t subdue him. April was eaten by Sloppy Joseph when he disrupted Draxum's Lunch Lady of the Year award ceremony and was rescued by Draxum. After Autry Cafeteria was cleaned, she left her school with Mikey.

April visited the Hidden City with the family in “Donnie vs. Witch Town”. Wanting to make her presentation on the science of chairs more interesting, she sought the help of the Yōkai in Witch Town, trying to deter Donnie from helping her. It was Witch Town’s Peace Offering Day and April and Donnie were welcomed, but April was frustrated with Donnie's continued derision toward the witches’ use of mystic powers. She was able to learn a spell from Gentry for her presentation, but Donnie's destruction of a Witch Town Statue got them removed from the town by Mayor Mira and Gentry. Donnie ended up helping Gentry find and age the yannis worms needed for the Peace Offering Potion, but aged the worms incorrectly so when the Great Morgan drank the potion, he became angry. April had to work with Donnie to save Witch Town from the Great Morgan's wrath. During the chaos, April's baseball bat was doused with a mystic substance, bestowing it mystic energy and a green hue. She soothed Donnie's concern about mystic powers rendering his science obsolete and defeated the Great Morgan. Despite Donnie’s apology to the Witch Town citizens, Mayor Mira had them arrested by the Hidden City Police. However, upon being put in their cell, they found Raph already there.

April set her sights on going to Witch Town in “Raph's Ride-Along”.

April was nonplussed by Draxum being held in her Donnie and Raph's cell in “Hidden City's Most Wanted”.

April was saved by Mikey and Splinter disguised as Hidden City lawyers and was teleported out of the Hidden City Prison along with Donnie, Draxum, Leo, and Raph in “Bad Hair Day”.

April was excited to join Splinter on his Lou Jitsu School of Ninjutsu inspection in “Fists of Furry”. However, they traveled all over New York City just to find a single location as all the others were replaced by a Komodo Dragon Karate Dojo. The students there were without an instructor and were bullied by the Komodo Dragons students. When Kristoff Van Bradford was challenged by Splinter to a martial arts competition for ownership of the final Lou Jitsu School of Ninjutsu, April trained with Splinter to represent the Lou Jitsu School of Ninjutsu and competed at the Kaufman Coliseum later that night. Frank was chosen by Splinter as April's opponent and she initially struggled to beat him, but eventually tied the score 2-2. When Frank hurt himself in frustration, she refused to continue the match, but Frank was ordered to transform himself using the Komodo dragon yōkai the Komodo Dragons brought. April threatened to use the Seven Deadly Vipers move and Frank gave up, winning the match in her favor. Her, Jake, Sam, and Sara were attacked by Kristoff and when he transformed himself as Frank did, she teamed up with Splinter to defeat him with the Seven Deadly Vipers move.

April had the family, including Draxum, participate in a New York City scavenger hunt in “Battle Nexus: New York” to educate them about the city. Before it could start, April was mystically swept into a summer cruise ship with Draxum, Foot Recruit, Splinter, and Todd Capybara. It was only after Draxum realized they had been abducted and placed in an illusion by Big Mama's Mystic Orb that April worked with the others to escape. Later, Shadow Fiend's claws created a fracture in the Mystic Orb's surface which Draxum exploited and used to free himself, April, Foot Recruit, and Splinter. Engaged in a fight against Big Mama and her Battle Nexus champion Shadow Fiend, April threw the Mystic Orb to Draxum to allow him to unlock it and free the other New York City inhabitants. The battle moved inside of the Grand Nexus Hotel sporting lounge where April was part of the Mystic Hot Soup Hibernator team move against Shadow Fiend. After Foot Recruit stole the Mystic Ring from Big Mama, April realized that Shadow Fiend was the Shredder in disguise. April was attacked by the Shredder on Foot Recruit's order along with everyone else, but managed to escape through a portal created by Splinter.

In “Finale Part 1: E-Turtle Sunshine of the Spotless Mind”, April assessed the current crisis with the family at the lair. Draxum decided to use the Sands of Time Hourglass to access Splinter's memories to learn how to defeat the Shredder as he had been told by Hamato Sho. April later was sent into Splinter's brain by Draxum with the Turtles to save them from Splinter's attacking subconscious. The ritual ended upon their escape and Raph told them that the Twilight Realm contained the weapon needed to defeat the Shredder. Draxum opened the Twilight Realm and April was part of the chain to allow Splinter to reach the weapon and return to Earth. To April's shock, the weapon transformed into a woman.

After the woman, who revealed herself to be Hamato Karai, explained some Hamato Clan history in "Finale Part 2: Shreddy or Not", April left the lair atrium for the Turtle Tank garage to help Draxum seal the cracking Mystic Orb to protect the citizens inside from the Shredder. Her use of duct tape successfully sealed the fractures and she was ordered by Draxum to flee the lair with the Mystic Orb.

April returned to a demolished lair and a dying Karai in “Finale Part 3: Anatawa Hitorijanai”. April sought to give her medical attention, but was denied by Karai who instead affirmed April's place in the Hamato Clan and transferred her ghost into April's body, bestowing her Hamato Ninpō. April then biked to Cuddle Cakes Puppy Rescue to find Todd and the Turtles. She told them what happened to her earlier and had them climb to the treetops as part of their Hamato Ninpō training. April's efforts to understand Karai's advice and tackle Donnie's confusion escalated into an argument between him and her which was diffused by an outburst from Raph who confessed his feelings of overwhelm as the Mad Dogs leader. April and Karai comforted Raph and it led to Raph and his brothers unlocking their Hamato Ninpō.

April and the Turtles returned to the lair in “Finale Part 4: Rise” and entered the Hidden City through the hole created by the Shredder in “Finale Part 2: Shreddy or Not”. They sought out Big Mama at the Battle Nexus for clues on where to look for Draxum, Splinter, and the Foot. Big Mama said that since the Foot intended to extract Splinter’s Hamato essence, they needed Empyrean located at the Crying Titan. The Mad Dogs arrived at the Crying Titan in time to stop the Shredder from murdering Draxum and fought the Shredder. April worked with Karai directly to land a blow from her mystic baseball bat, but was forced off of a hand of the Crying Titan, allowing the Shredder to absorb Splinter’s Hamato essence. When Foot Recruit stopped the Shredder from murdering Splinter and Draxum and Splinter were freed from their binds by Donnie and Leo, they, including Cassandra Jones, initiated a simultaneous assault on the Shredder. Even with Splinter's Hamato Ninpō accessed, the Shredder overpowered them and it wasn't until the Hamato Clan Ancestors joined the fight that they were able to kill the Shredder. Karai left April's body and April returned to New York and handed Draxum the Mystic Orb to release those inside.

In Rise of the TMNT: The Movie, now an Eastlaird University student, April stole Dr. Boringson's identification badge to access a locked laboratory to investigate it as part of her journalism for Eastlaird Daily News. The vials she found inside were full of hypertoxic herbicide covertly being made by Eastlaird University. She took photographs of them with her smartphone, but had to suddenly leave when a security guard appeared. She stole several of the vials of herbicide in her backpack, but when she exited the university, she was approached by a strange figure who she promptly knocked out. April brought him to the new lair upon noticing that he had a photograph of the family. She explained what happened to Splinter and the Turtles and the stranger awoke, introducing himself as Casey Jones and someone from the future. Although she disbelieved him at first, Splinter's story about the Krang that Casey mentioned convinced her he was being honest. April was told that the Foot brought on the apocalypse in his timeline after they stole the Mystic Key and released the Krang from the Prison Dimension. April went with Casey, Splinter, and the Turtles to the Foot’s new hideout as the Turtles knew that the Foot stole the Mystic Key earlier. Upon arrival, Casey, Splinter and the Mad Dogs battled the Foot to take the Mystic Key, but were unable to stop Foot Lieutenant from opening the Prison Dimension. The newly freed Krang attacked Casey, Splinter, and the Mad Dogs and Splinter was rendered unconscious by Krang Two. Raph then called for a retreat and April was flown to the lair by a Donnie Pod. Leo arrived in a Donnie Pod after April, Casey, Donnie, Mikey, and Splinter did. After Leo informed them that Raph had sacrificed his own freedom to save Leo, the family decided to split up. April stayed with Splinter at the lair to destroy the Mystic Key, but every attempt failed. She fled from Krang Two and her Krang zombie army when they invaded the lair on a Shell Hog, but she and Splinter were knocked off of it by Krang Two. In defense of the Mystic Key, April severely burned Krang Two by throwing herbicide at her and managed to escape on the Shell Hog with Splinter. April was told by Donnie and Mikey that they were trapped in the Turtles Tank in a subway tunnel below Metro Tower surrounded by the Krang. April and Splinter appeared at their location and saved them from being crushed by the Turtle Tank. However, Krang Two continued to chase them and Splinter and the Mad Dogs ran into Metro Tower. They met up with Casey and Leo and learned that Raph was in the room, too, suspended in Krang material. Raph was freed, but transformed into a Krang zombie and stole the Mystic Key from April and gave it to Krang One who needed it to reopen the Prison Dimension and free the Technodrome. April was surrounded by the Krang zombie army, but managed to escape thanks to Splinter. The Technodrome was freed and the Krang began its assault on New York City and April helped to devise a plan to stop the Krang. She worked with Casey and Splinter to stop Krang Two, now in her Titan. The battle moved to a construction site and April used a wrecking ball to force steel beams to fall on top of Krang Two, immobilizing and defeating her. April encouraged Casey to retrieve the Mystic Key from the top of Metro Tower, but when Leo planned to seal himself in the Prison Dimension with Krang One, she could do nothing to intervene. Devastated by Leo’s sacrifice, she wept with Splinter. After Leo was rescued by his brothers, Krang One was trapped in the Prison Dimension, and New York City was reconstructed, she enjoyed pizza with the family on a rooftop and cheered Raph on to best Leo’s pizza stack record.

In "Race", April mass-texted the family offering them pizza. She was feeding Mayhem when Mikey and Raph busted through her apartment door followed by Donnie. She then informed them that the pizza had already been eaten by Splinter who had arrived first.

    • Weapon improvisation: April is adept at using objects in her environment offensively and defensively against opponents.
  • Ninjutsu: While April largely uses her own organic style in combat, Splinter taught her some formal techniques of his own creation so she could defend the Lou Jitsu School of Ninjutsu in "Fists of Furry".
    • Hamato Ninpō: As a member of the Hamato Clan, April is capable of tapping into her clan's energy to unleash her own mystic might.
  • Seven Deadly Vipers: Labeled as a "secret secret" by Splinter, the Seven Deadly Vipers move immediately makes opponents yield upon merely hearing its name. April is the only person other than Splinter who knows how to use it.
  • Lazy Llama: A blocking technique where April moves her arms loosely and wildly to defend a wide area of her body against attacks.
  • Tiger Claw: A technique where April tackles her opponent in a manner reminiscent of a pouncing tiger.
  • Crane operation: April is a licensed crane operator as shown in "Many Unhappy Returns".

  • The Hamato Clan: April has been a friend of Splinter and the Turtles for several years prior to the start of the series, but she had been unanimously considered family to the clan long ago as asserted by the clan's matriarch. This has granted April access into her own Hamato Ninpō power. Her relationship with the Turtles is akin to that of a sister and she typically fights alongside them.
    • Michelangelo: April and Mikey are quite sweet towards one another and she isn't hesitant to comfort him. They together are the ones most responsible for helping Draxum adapt to his new life.
    • Leonardo: April gets along well with Leo and enjoys his playful nature. Despite being older than him, she doesn't seem to feel compelled to tell him what to do and just lets him do what he wishes for the most part.

Raph, as the leader, takes care of her and there seems to be an unspoken understanding between them as the two eldest Mad Dogs and they support one another thoroughly.
    • Hamato Yoshi / Lou Jitsu / Splinter: Although April is essentially an older sister to the Turtles, April's relationship with Splinter is not quite like that of Splinter's relationship with his sons; Splinter and April are not responsible for or answerable to one another other in the ways a father or daughter would be. April has a strong bond with Splinter and they are great friends. She cares deeply about him, concerned about his safety when he chooses to infiltrate the Foot and wishing to help him by pretending to be a Foot member right along with him in "Shadow of Evil" and tending to his injuries in "End Game". Despite their immense love and trust in one another, it is not uncommon for them to squabble like in "Shadow of Evil" when April tires of Splinter's insistence on visiting her workplace and is irritated that Splinter deprived her of the chance to combat the Foot (albeit unintentionally) in "Insane in the Mama Train". April is quite casual towards Splinter and they are both quite comfortable around each other. They regularly entertain each other's ideas as seen in Rise of the TMNT: The Movie when Splinter follows April's strategy against Krang Two and when April heeds Splinter's advice in "Always Be Brownies". She often calls him "Splints".
    • Hamato Karai: April has a trusting and loving relationship with Karai. In "Anatawa Hitorijanai", she was reassured by Karai that she had always been part of the clan. After Karai died, her spirit resided inside April so that Karai, through April, could help the Turtles access their Hamato Ninpō in order to defeat the Shredder.

In "Mystery Meat", April is shown to help monitor Draxum's situation, including helping him adapt to his new human workplace, conceal both his Yōkai identity, mystic power, and reel in some of his old bad habits. Over time, April and Draxum have become unlikely friends with a good working relationship. As friends, April usually addresses Draxum as "Barry".
