Andre is Master Splinter's dear friend in the live action Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation TV series. They spend a lot of time together playing chess. Andre has no idea that Splinter is a giant talking rat because he is blind, but is friendly enough to him that he might not mind if he ever found out. In the episode The Guest, Andre became evicted from his apartment and Splinter let him live in the Sewer Den for a few days while he searches for a new place to live.
