Usagi for 6- to 11-year-olds? That seems wrong... Part of the quirky appeal of Usagi is the way random characters die with that skull visualization. Hard to imagine a show for audiences that young showing much of that.
Did you forget what kind of very conditional TMNT fan I am? :) TMNT may not always necessarily be just for adults (teenagers can read it too), but it should never have been for little kids in the first place. I'm kind of a Mirage/IDW audience purist when it comes to that, and I on rare occasion get into works targeting younger audiences (like the 2012 TV series, at least for a little while) if it successfully overlaps with my interests.
But TMNT has its own decades-accumulated baggage when it comes to target audiences, reputation and brand recognition—I wouldn't necessarily say the same about Usagi, whose delvings into children's entertainment have been done far more sparingly over the years, managing to avoid most of the hyper-kiddification and kitschy merchandising that has befallen TMNT over that same time. So if Stan Sakai really thinks this new show is a good idea for his creation and he gives his stamp to it, then we can see where it goes.
Eh... I don't memorize who likes what, where, who, and how. I have a hard enough time remembering my name half the time.
I'm just saying that those a few of those shows still had moments on-par with the stuff like Sakai's "dies with a skull" moments - which while partially offscreen, DID happen in the 2012 crossover.
The Usagi show, if it comes to completion, probably won't be available until 2019 at the earliest. Dark Horse's Facebook mentioned that it's been "optioned" which doesn't always lead to a final product.
My biggest hope is that they get some good voice actors.
Ahh, okay then. :) I didn't watch the rest of season 4...or any of season 5.
Yeah there are people elsewhere that are making comparisons to Dora the Explorer and Sesame Street. I'm not sure why they think those shows are for the 6-11 crowd, but it's not even close.
If you ever get an inkling to, I'd at least recommend Yojimbo. Sakai wrote it himself, and it's aces.
While I agree with Easol that it is about time this happened, I doubt that they'll bring back Yuki to voice Usagi let alone any of the others from the episodes we just saw last year. At least Stan Sakai is on board but that's all I can really say.
What do you think?
